Welcome to shield country. The land is scraped by glaciers leaving many areas of poor drainage, hemmed in by rocks with the hollows gouged out by the ice. So lots of ponds, beaver to help block streams, and brush and forest. Anything close to rivers was logged decades ago, so smaller trees in most locations. Look for the berries and... More

Near the end of September, a friend and I checked the weather and decided to canoe from Hartley Bay to the mouth of Georgian Bay. September was an awesome time to go. The waters, for the most part, were calm and I could feel my stomach relax the further we paddled. Once we passed a few folks fishing in the... More

We took the trail from the welcomr centre to the falls. It was a great hike and workout. The falls was small...more like big rapids.

The French River was the life blood of the explorers' routes and a major freeway during the fur trade. The stunning visitor centre gives you a great insight into the role this river played for the original peoples of the region and then for the European penetration into the interior. Just fascinating. As a bonus there is a nice walk... More

We have been doing a family camping/fishing trip at French River P.P. for 4 years now. We have mostly spent our time on the lower French in the area of the "Elbow" and Dalles Rapids. Generally the further south you go the less people you will see. There are some private cabins on the river and small power boats will... More

I really enjoyed this park! I was expecting more trails, but the trails that they have are well maintained and well marked. I would recommend good shoes as you are climbing up rocks and tree roots! The day we visited the visitors center was closed, but they have outdoor wash rooms and vending machines to make up for it.

Great place to paddle or motor boat. Camp sites are large and private. The first site we stopped at had a rattle snake..so we left. Beautiful water. Cant wait to return.

Have come to this area for week long canoe trips many times. It never disappoints. Our crew has even been lucky enough to see the Northern Lights on a handful of occasions. It's really a great starter river for families with kids as young as 5.

These are my new favourite trails! The views in the fall are amazing especially from the bridge. Great location for family photos.

I wish I had more time to explore here. I made it to the snowmobile bridge and the views were amazing. Canopies for miles, but the colours hadn't changed much yet along this stretch. Unfortunately there was construction going on to the east so the view wasn't spectacular. I would've loved to have done the hike to Recollet Falls, but... More
