As we cycled along this beautiful cycling route, we marvelled at how well thought out this route was. Everything about this route shows incredible attention to detail – from the blue line that you follow, to the 500m interval markers on the road, to the...More

This was an experience to treasure. Done over a weekend starting Saturday morning at Onomichi and ending at the fantastic Hotel cycle with a Setoda stay thrown in, the cycling was absolutely great. 5mph headwinds and the elevation changes made this tougher than the usual...More

This is a great ride! It is well marked and very easy to follow the route. There are plenty of rest stops along the way with washrooms. There are also plenty of convenience stores to buy snacks, sandwiches and drinks....perhaps it was the time of...More

Put this one on your cycling bucketlist (if it isn't there already). Island-hopping across some spectacular bridges, with gorgeous scenery along the way. This well-defined route (just follow the blue line) caters perfectly to cyclists and adventurers looking to explore away from tourist crowds and...More

I have actually cycled the Shimanami Kaido many times. It’s always enjoyable! There are many beautiful sites and kind people along the way. There are six major islands along the route. Starting in Onomichi (Hiroshima Prefecture): Mukaishima, Innoshima, Ikuchijima, (and now Ehime Prefecture) Omishima, Hakatajima,...More

We started in Onomichi and rented bikes. At any of the islands along the route you can call it a day and grab a bus back to the starting point. We did the full route, stopped a bunch along the way to eat meals, several...More

We rented our bikes from Onomichi, then rode across to Setoda, to catch the ferry back to town. 26km in all, with a 50m ascents of about 3 degrees incline in order to get up to the bridges between the islands. I found the ascents...More

We took two days to do this trip, going beyond the recommended route to the more intermediate route. It adds on kilometres (we did over 100), there’s also a few extra big hills but the outer islands are beautiful. Less industry and some little towns....More

Cycling the Onomichi islands is a must do while visiting Hiroshima. It's a nice break away from the trains stations, bus terminals, city and crowds. The views are refreshing, the scents from the fruit trees are delightful, very little traffic(at least when we went). I...More

The ride is safe and it is a pretty gental ride other than the ramps up to the bridges. There are not many roads on most of the islands so it's also pretty easy to navigate. I ride road bikes a lot at home and the cruisers... More
