A Trip Back In Time

Come and meet our friendly staff and take a relaxing ride on our heritage steam train through the beautiful Mendip Countryside. The return journey takes approximately 40 minutes and is a 5 mile round trip.

You pay once and you can ride the trains all day!

As well as riding the train you can visit our engine shed and workshop and see our restoration projects up close, while away an hour or so chatting away to our very knowledgeable volunteers. We also have a signal box and miniature railway (these are only open on specific dates), small museum, a big shop and cafe serving delicious homemade meals each day we are in steam.

We also offer Cream Teas, High Teas and Sunday Lunches on specific dates which need to be booked in advance as they do sell out very quickly.

Our season runs from March to October and then we run our Santa Specials in December.

An excellent preserved line near Shepton Mallet linked inexorably with David Shepherd, the well known artist. I tend to have my wife to tag along on my railway trips and she appeared to particularly like this one... As usual in today's world of railways, the East Somerset appeared to be well run and safe for both staff and visitors. Good... More

Simple preserved railway, tries hard for the young ones, not a great deal to see for the steam buffs though. Dont think the railway quite matches the north somerset railway, which is on of the best in the UK. Cheap ride and friendly staff. But the ride does not go anywhere sadly.

Just called in for coffee and a quick look at the engines - stayed all day! I am a cream/afternoon tea fanatic but when I looked on their website all the seats for the tea were sold out, however when we arrived we asked at the ticket office and they had cancelations so we booked the tea. Absolutely incredible value... More

I am so disappointed to have to write this review. I had booked a special birthday treat for my husband through Into the Blue. I had booked for six people to have a Sunday Lunch on the Mendip Belle. We were really looking forward to the experience. The whole experience was beset with problems. The first issue was with the... More

We were given a Sunday lunch voucher on a steam train for Christmas. We booked the date well in advance and nearer the date we chose our menu The train ride is not that fantastic or long but the three course lunch was superb with coffee to finish. The train journey was done twice so as to give plenty of... More

My wife purchased a gift card to have Sunday Lunch on the Railway. We planned our day out at the East Somerset Railway to include coffees and cake on arrival; unfortunately, it was late morning on a Sunday with the dining train leaving at 12.30pm so they closed the cafe to other customers - this wasn't evident on the website - not good! Otherwise this is a lovely place and we'll return another... More
