Dropped into the priory for the mediaeval combat weekend... Great performances - the surgeon and wise woman were really great at getting the perspectives across! The combat between knights was incredible - I'm hoping they only went home with bruises!

This is well worth a visit. From Newcastle it is £5 return on the metro. The town is gorgeous and this spot crowns the experience

You could walk right up to the gates and take photos and also walk part of the perimeter. There is no accommodation within the Castle or Priory grounds.
