Walked along the stoned river bed to the base of the pinnacles and then to the TOP look out. Totally worth the effort though it was tiring with a toddler along! The formations are amazing, nature at its best.

Stopped here on our way down to Wellington. Great scenic drive. The Pinnacles cover a huge area and take quite a bit of time to cover so plan accordingly. We had to cut our stay short and wish we could have seen more but what...More

What an amazing view and worth the effort. Not being fit I struggled at times but a great feeling to see the pinnacles. Not far from Cape Palliser and a must see on a clear day. Tracks are well maintained and an easy descent through...More

Had driven past the pinnacles numerous times we decided today was the day. Turned out to be a great walk, but if your like me 50munble and a few steps ahead of a hart attack I wouldn't be put off there was two tracks one...More

Always wanted to do this walk. It says it's an easy track but it does get a bit rough in places. There is not really any real track for the first part- from the carpark you pop out onto the streambed and basically make your...More

Stayed overnight at the Doc Camp which is very rudimentary so come self contained (yes there are 2 toilets). Tramped in with young kids next morning on very hot day. Was surprised as it took slightly longer than recommended time to walk in. No shelter...More

Stayed at DOC Camp which is a bit rough and not much else to do so come self contained. Walked in to Pinnacles which is average walking fitness walk but with 10 and 12 yr old was more of an expedition. Took a bit longer...More

This is a really interesting walk. From the carpark, you follow the stream up to the Pinnacles themselves. It is a relatively easy walk and well worth the effort.

I decided we would do this walk before reading the reviews on here and then after I did I was a little sceptical that my children (and us unfit adults) would be able to do this walk. We took the riverbed track and my 2...More

What if the walking distance from the car park to the pinnacles along the stream bed? We have 3 little kids and would love to do it but wondering if manageable?

Hello! Could you tell me how long the drive is from Wellington? I wanted to take a day out of the city to drive to Wairarapa and take my son to Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Centre...then I found this. Could both be done in a full day? And which direction would be best, if so...from Wellington to Mount Bruce and down to the pinnacles, or to the pinnacles and back up through Mount Bruce...? Am I looking at waaaay too much driving? No idea of the area : ) Oh, and which of the walks gets you closest to the Pinnacles? And which is shortest? If that makes sense.

I think it is achievable, but would suggest you get a fairly early start from Wellington. You definitely need a good day to do the pinnacles. Are you aware that as well as the pinnacles there is a seal colony a bit further... More
Does anyone know the altitude of the lookout overlooking the pinnacles?
