About 45 minutes south of the Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo resort is this wonderful beach area. As the river meets the Pacific Ocean, you have a tranquil fishing village, that welcomes tourists and locals alike, to enjoy the many restaurants and the "endless beach"....! After a bite to eat... take your favorite drink and get on one of the many river pangas, and... More

We had a wonderful day in Barra de Potosi. Our host at our accommodation had recommended going down to this wee village south of Zihuatanejo, and because we had a car, we did so. There were 4 adults and 2 children and we thoroughly enjoyed the beach and lagoon. It was fun to jump in the waves (got hit pretty... More

We spent half a day at Barra de Potosi. It's a sleepy fishing village, that apparently is like Zihuatanejo was 60-70 years ago. When I say sleepy, I mean SLEEPY. Not much going on there at all. We had some drinks and snacks at a restaurant there. Super cheap, but food wasn't that great. Then we paid 300 pesos (roughly... More

Depending on when you visit Barra de Potosi, a tiny fishing village at the end of the road you can find hundreds of birds, whales jumping off shore, amazing surf fishing and miles of beach to wander...or you can find a few beach side restaurants with fresh seafood and the sand bar closed for the season, limiting bird life and... 500 pesos plus tips for a one hour tour in a panga to see a dozen birds at most. Nothing like others have claimed to see. One pelican close up, a cormorant, and an egret were all our guide could find. I was much more interested in the rolling and jumping fish as we are fly fishers. A "guide" snagged... More

We took a tour here and honestly, it was disappointing. Yes, it's a lovely mangrove swamp, but the waters were low and there was virtually no wildlife; comparing it to the laguna in Acapulco which teems with birds it's very disappointing. The shanty restaurants are just that; really not worth the tour.

The Annual Barra de Potosi Spring Fair will be on March 13 2015 and should as fun as last year's fair ~ really great arts and crafts and local ladies making their famous street food. The village goes all out to decorate and have fun with the folks who come out for the day. You can visit the lagoon too,... More

We decided to take a day trip down from Ixtapa , so glad we did . It included a few other stops , but Barra was the best ! Pristine beach which you could walk for hours , and the clearest water at the beach and beautiful views . We had a delicious lunch of Red|Snapper at the restaurant closest... More

This a great day trip. The beach is huge. Place to eat and drink. Get a taxi or jump the bus. Great for young and good old.

Barra de Potosí is a great place where a lagoon and the sea merge. We loved it, with a few beach restaurants (not fancy but friendly and confortable), a spectacular lagoon and a very special place to go to swim (kind of a salty river that ends at the sea). People is nice and friendly. We went there on a... More
