While the course is spectacular and very challenging as expected the experience was marred by having a really inexperienced forecaddy, who spoke not a word of english who could not even tell us if the putt was fast slow up or down but just pointed with the flagstick where to putt and invariably was wrong. He constantly gave all of us wrong distances with his rangefinder which we repeatedly asked him is that meters or yards. He replied yards. On one approach he told me it was 123 yds, but when I checked in my own rangefinder it was 108 yds. Was he guessing? Was his rangefinder in meters and he was calculating yards in his head? It really ruined our rounds and all four of us felt the same. There is so much course knowledge to be had here. Need to go left of the trees, aim right , dogleg left don’t ‘t be right etc. You really need an experienced caddy who can speak your language. And since there are a ton of Americans there I am sure there are caddies who do speak english. Then there is the issue of the carts not being included in the exorbitant fee which I am happy to pay but no carts included. Really?? Then we opted for power caddy carts which in itself is a nice feature to offer again for a price. The power caddy’s had built in GPS which had not been activated and there was no one to let us know that if we wanted the GPS we could have it in yards not meters. Took me 15 holes to figure it out. Did I love Valderamma. You bet! But for a course of this stature, not to have expert forecaddies really took away from the expedience. I will never go back. It’s a one and done course so my memories will always be a bit tarnished. Btw, they clean your clubs at the end to the point where my clubs looked brand new. The caddy marshals and everybody was very really nice. No complaints there.

Read about the Sunday buffet in a review that 'you must not miss'!!
Getting there with friends on a Sunday late September we were told by the guardsman that it was just for members.
On their home page you can read that this is a Member Club, That Welcome Visitors!???
Yes, we were kindly asked to 'only visit the Pro Shop', but not the restaurant or any other parts.
Question, as we found out that it actually is possible to book tee times, does that include to visit the restaurant, or do you need to bring a lunch box?

Having had the pleasure of visiting and playing at some of the worlds top golf courses my Valderrama experience left me so so so disappointed !! Taking nothing away from the magnificent golf course and how its presented, I was made to feel as though I had no right to be there despite have paid top $$$$ for the pleasure. From the offset I found the staff to be extremely rude, restrictions on movement made you feel uncomfortable and the whole experience was one I'd wish to forget quickly. From being informed that my green fee hadn't been processed (despite it having been deducted from my bank account and having to prove such) to being informed that a previously arranged dinner reservation wouldn't be honoured despite having had confirmation of my reservation - it all left a very sour taste in my mouth and more concerning, a very disappointed wife who had dressed and arrived at the location for what I'd been promised would be an amazing experience which actually turned out to being refused entry with only a recommendation to dine elsewhere!!

Its the second time that I have played at Valderrama. First with a group of 14 and this time 9. The course is wonderful but the overall experience was tainted this time by the attitude of the Caddy Master.
After our round we had 2 hours to wait for our return transport. I asked if I could hit a few balls on the range and the response was an outright NO. I checked in the shop and the staff said that it was up to the Caddy Master. It is allowed before the round but not after.
We also played La Reserva, Marbella Club, San Roque and Finca Cortesin. At any other course this would not have been a problem.
The course is fantastic but the attitude towards visitors (who are paying a hefty premium to play) v members rather spoils the experience.
Next time we will skip Valderrama as overall experience at La Reserva and Finca is at another level.

I had already decided that Valderrama Golf Club was an overrated, expensive, waste of time before I arrived there. It sounded pompous and arrogant and I just wasn’t all that excited to play golf there. Well, I was wrong!
When we arrived, we were treated very well, everyone was friendly and went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The course is an excellent design and is in outstanding shape. Far and away the best course I have seen in mainland Europe. Each hole is memorable and even if it is difficult, it is fair.
I am so happy that I took the time to play this course!

We were on a cruise/with golf (offered by Perry Golf) and had the privilege of playing this course. We have visited Augusta National in Georgia and this course compares to it. It is absolutely beautiful, difficult but a true pleasure to play. The Proshop and restaurant were excellent. All staff we encountered were friendly and professional, working to help us enjoy our visit. If you get the chance play it. The cork trees are beautiful!

This course is amazing, eb=ven though I had my worst day ever playing. The cork trees make this a very difficult track if you do not hit straight every shot. Well worth a look.

Very good golf course with some excellent holes in very good condition. Some really standout holes but a green fee of 300 euros I expected more. The club house was ok and the staff friendly but again I expected more. So if it's on your bucket list give it a go but you may feel a little let down.

Best golf course in Europe continental. A great experience which any golfer must do at least once, but even better the second time or third time. It is expensive but worth every Euro!
Lunch on sunday is also a must, or diner in the member dining room.

How can I get a tee time between 5/17 and 5/24?
Written 30 April 2018
While Valderama is truley a private club, they allow a few tee times later in the day for non-members to play. When I called, they told me which days were available, and the times available. There wasn’t much choice, of the 4 days we were there, one day had 2 tee times and the other had 1. All other days were either booked or closed to the public. (Also, they requested payment at that time.)
The course is expensive, but in my opinion, well worth it. It is a great layout with interesting holes, and it was in “country club” condition with smooth fast greens and near perfect fairways. Also, from the moment we arrived, we were treated as if we belonged there. Everyone was helpful and friendly and did their best to see that we enjoyed ourselves.

Written 19 November 2015
Played in September 2019 and we were permitted to drive our buggies on the fairways.
