About
This stretch of beach on the eastern end of Laganas Bay is famous for its fine white sand and mountainous views. It's part of the Zakynthos Marine Park and is a nesting ground for the endangered Caretta Caretta turtles. If you're lucky, you might see the turtles nesting and hatching between May and October. Even though some areas are cordoned off and sea sports aren't allowed to protect the turtles, there's still plenty to do here. The shallow gentle waters are great for swimming and families, there are sunbeds for rent, plus restaurants and resorts. Go turtle spotting on a tour of Zakynthos, which also stops at Marathonisi (Turtle Island). – Tripadvisor

- rayraysworldWarwick, United Kingdom1,990 contributionsnice beachreally liked the beach. good bar with drinks and food. shop just down the road. soft sand. water is nice and calm. the tiny fish did 'peck' you if you stayed still or sat down . i like relaxing in the sea and have never experienced fish doing this before. they never hurt one bit.it was totally harmless. but was still annoying. you can walk along the beach to the right to Laganas and that takes around 30-40 minutes.Visited July 2022Written 29 May 2023
- Mike M12 contributionsA very relaxing break.During our week in Kalamaki, staying at the Roseland hotel, we visited the beach every day bar one when we went on an island tour. Probably due to being early in the season the beach was not crowded and we felt very satisfied with all our visits. Kalamaki beach is excellent for swimming being shallow for quite some distance from the shore. Some of our group saw turtles swimming close to far end of the beach, the end furthest from Laganas, but, unfortunately, we didn't spot any on our visits. I would recommend it as a family beach with plenty of food and drink outlets either on the beach or very close to it.Visited May 2023Written 1 June 2023
- Joanne66 contributionsFab beachLovely clear waters, went in may half term amd it never seemed to busy. Sunbeds to hire along the seafront are about 12 euro for the day for 2 lounges and an umbrella. Ice cream and snack bar along seq frontVisited May 2023Travelled with familyWritten 4 June 2023
- Marian MRomania118 contributionsOne of the top beaches in Zachyntos. The beach is clean, well maintained. You don't necessarily need water shoes. We really liked the location, having sunbeds both on the sand and on the grass (we preferred the ones on the grass - more shade and more peace). I recommend you to sit on the left side of the Kalamaki Beach tavern (as you look at the sea). The guy who collects the money on the sunbeds (12 euros) is very helpful. He served us very quickly with everything we wanted. We ate on deckchairs on the grass in good shade. It was perfect. Very good food at decent prices.Visited July 2023Written 16 July 2023
- ChloeUnited Kingdom36 contributionsChilled beach, warm water, would deffo return!!I visited this beach as it was a 10min walk from our hotel, the sand was soo hot I burned my feet so just make sure you are wearing shoes! The beach is a peaceful beach and it was not crowded at all, if your looking for peace and quiet this is the beach to go to. We hired a pedalo for €12 for 1 hour which was so good and we did snorkelling in the water and see fishes which was amazing. The water is so clear, there isn't any rocks, the water is warm as well and you will just have a awesome time on this beach. The sand is so fine that I am still finding sand in my bags haha, it just follows you everywhere! We went a couple of times as it's just so relaxing and chilled, there was kids but not over crowded or too touristy.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 July 2023
- philbo45Heraklion, Greece436 contributionsOne of Crete's Nicest Family BeachesThe beach in front of the seaside village of Kalamaki is one of Crete's best-kept secrets. Travelers go here, but not in droves as is the case in other places. A section of a much longer string of beaches that stretch around the Gulf of Mesara. This 2.5 km section is one of our favorites because of the sheer beauty of the place, the amenities, and the fantastic tavernas bumping up against the sand. For a quiet, serene, and sun-filled vacation without the clutter and noise, this is one of the best destinations on the island. The entire beachfront is also In a protected loggerhead sea turtle area, and locals take great care to help the hatchlings reach the sea once the emerge. Nearby, there are many other attractions of great interest, including the Minoan ruins at Kommos Beach, the Palace at Phaestos, Agia Triada, the Mother Tree (a thousands of years old olive tree), and many more. Go here.Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 6 August 2023

- Lisa C21 contributionsBeautiful sandy beachAbout a 10 minute 10 euro can ride from Laganas town, this is a beautiful beach where the turtle come to nest in August. It’s therefore protected. Much more peaceful with a reduced Instagram vibe that Laganas thank goodness. Sea is safe shallow and clear. A couple of nice tavernas. The daily hire of the sun beds is cheaper at the taverna than the freelance guy on the beach incidentallyVisited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 29 August 2023
- ricalx11London, United Kingdom300 contributionsNice beach not too builtVery nice long beach. There are few bars that hires umbrellas and sun beds at different prices. The beach is sandy. When the turtles are nesting half of the beach might become a no go area, still very nice.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 27 September 2023

A Nice Beach and it's a lovely 1 mile walk down to Laganas Beach.
You may even see Loggerhead Turtles hatching depending on when you go.

We had a good time at the beach. The water was a bit cloudy because of the rain, but that was fine. It was clean and not crowded.

While Kalamaki Beach is narrow, grubby and tame, walk around the point and you'll find Vrontonero Beach, which has a bit more action. It's the gay/ nudist beach. It's true that the further down you walk the hotter it gets. Water is clear but there are no facilities. Bring everything you'll need. ;-)

Beach is lovely, sea crystal clear but €20 for two sunbeds will stop me ever coming back. Pricing families off the beach. Last year it was €8.

Went for a walk in the hope of seeing the turtles but guess we didn't go early enough. Lovely sandy beach though and the water was like a mill pond

The beach is ok nothing special the most disappointing thing is the sun beds and parasols are to expensive on the sea front twenty euros is a real let down. They were 12 euros in most areas but now they have surged to a ridiculous price no wonder there’s plenty empty sun beds everywhere.

Si può mettere il proprio ombrellone o è vietato per via del parco Marino?
Grazie
Certamente, ci sono enormi spazi di spiaggia libera per poterlo fare.

We go to Kalamaki so only know fare to there, but it won’t be expensive. If you’re on any of the Zante Facebook groups someone there will definitely know.

Hello, we stayed in kalamaki for a week in September and loved it!! As it was only a week we didn't really explore, except taking the fun train into Zante town. We have booked for 12 nights in july, so was wondering what would be recommended for a family with a 4 year old? I would like to do a boat trip, but not a day long one as I'm quite nervy in the sea. All recommendations appreciated . X thanks x

Hi I took my boys age 8 and 6 on the turtle spotting trip in the yellow submarine glass bottomed boat it was only half a day and they loved it. We visited a beach on the trip and it was nice to get away from our all inclusive hotel for a couple of hours. In evening we visited pandesia the Greek restaurant in Kalamaki was the highlight of our trip as food fantastic with Greek dancing, a fire show and my boys got to smash plates ! A great child friendly place. Have a great time away xx

TIA.

From kalimaki to Zante town it's about €3 so about twice that distance should be about approx €6 depending how friendly the bus driver is. Taxis are reasonable, if you ask your rep/receptionist, they should help. Car hire is quite cheap as well, great to explore the island.
