An old monestery

Love to visit this old monastery. They say this is one of the oldest monastery but we have to travel very high from the town to go there.

The monastery is very well decorated and is a very calm place. We could not enter inside because puja and aarti was going on inside. There were beautiful flowers inside the boundary. Very neat and one will feel refreshed for sure.

We were privileged to be allowed to sit in on a service to the Buddha statues and enjoyed the humour of the musicians who kept us fully engaged with their wry smiles.

This holy place of Northern Buddhist Lamas was established in 1840 AD by a legendary lama called Drupthob Karpo who was believed to possess flying powers. He flew from a monastery in South Sikkim and landed his first step at Enchey. Much of the old monastery has been destroyed in an earthquake but the main prayer hall still looks like... More

A typical Buddhist Monastery. The local authorities have undertaken a major repair and reconstruction work here that will last at least till mid 2017.

Though car reaches till a point and then one needs to climb a steep slope and then take few stairs to reach this monastery which can be tiring for elders, the monastery is beautiful and good place to spend some time in peaceful surrounding. The entry is free. Do visit if you like if you like monasteries and its calmness... More

An important seat of the Nyingmapa order, the Enchey Monesty is built on the site blessed by Lama Druptok Karpo, a tantric master known for his power of flying. This 200 years old monesty has in its premises images of gods, goddesses and other religious objects. Every year around January," Chaam" or religious masked dance is performed with great fanfare...
