We found this chateau as stunning on the outside and fair value for a 2 hour visit. Only some parts of the castle are open to the public, but you can walk the impressive ramparts. It wasn't very busy but we enjoyed the lower amount of tourist traffic in Vitre. Nice relaxing day!

This is a City (Vitre) that is not in the 'mainstream' of most guides. I stayed in Rennes and discovered this attraction exploring the local pages. Very nice surprise !!, I enjoyed a lot (I like history, specially medieval times).

We walked along the short rampart with a great view. Walked around the inside but didn't pay to go int a small museum inside. It's part of a lovely walk around this beautiful town

One of the well remained beautiful castles in Bretagne. The several rooms that you can visit are parts of the museum. If it were not in France where you mkust select among too many castles to visit, it would deserve a five star rating.

This is a fine example of what you expect a castle to look like. It is also a must to spend time walking around the adjecent old town. Very impressive.

The museum at this chateau is wonderful. Three different centuries of Vitre's history are represented on three different floors of the chateau. The walk-through is enlightening and well done. I wish more of the information was available in English but perhaps that isn't often required? In any case, the restoration work is superb and I have heard that some of... More

We stopped in Vitre to pick up cheeses at the local market and took a walk around. The medieval chateau is spectacular - very little imagination required to picture life in and around the chateau 500 years ago. Definitely worth a visit if you are in or around Vitre. The market was also great!

I have been in France for 20 years and had never been to Vitré not even really heard about it. It is one of France's best kept secrets! We stopped off on our way 1 night before visiting family in the Rennes area. The château is really magnificent and it is worth walking all the way around it to see... More

I specifically came to Vitré to check out this castle. It didn't disappoint me at all. Please check the hours online before coming. The castle looks majestic on the outside. Although it's free to wander into the courtyard, ticket costs 6 Euros for an adult. You use the ticket's bar code to scan at the door on the building on... More
