The Chateau from the outside is certainly very impressive and promises a building of huge historical significance... crossing over the drawbridge you emerge into the courtyard and........ well to be honest, that's your lot...... Sadly the promise doesn't last very long as there's actually nothing...More

We stayed in Vitres one night at a friends house and his dining room faced the castle in the back of his flat. We had a glass roof to look through at the chateau because the building was huge. Had the late afternoon taking in...More

A rainy day in September and few people about makes for an enjoyable and hassle free visit to this grand edifice. Not elegantly furnished but fun to climb around and enjoy the view from the windows.

This is a very nice medieval castle and it is very near to Fougeres (some 20-30 km) which is also a must visit. Don't miss it.

Whole old city and this castle looks just from a medieval movie - awesome. Inside for 6Eur not too much to see, a couple of furnished rooms, no english descriptions/ guides. Still worth a visit

We really enjoyed our visit to the castle. The towers and ramparts offered great views of the town of Vitré and the beautiful countryside, while the rooms were interestingly furnished and very uncrowded. A great relief after the hordes at Mont Saint Michel.

We stopped off in Vitre for a quick bite to eat at a local eatery, then walked up to the chateau. It is quite imposing.
