The greatest of Jamaican great houses, the Rose Hall Great House has a...

The greatest of Jamaican great houses, the Rose Hall Great House has a story with all the elements of an engaging novel. Built in 1770 by John Palmer and his wife, it eventually became the residence of their grandnephew, John Rose Palmer. In 1820, Palmer married Annee, a beautiful but feisty English girl.

Little did John know that his young wife possessed “black magic” powers that would eventually lead to his demise. During her reign as mistress of the plantation, Annee did away with two more husbands and countless lovers.

“The White Witch of Rose Hall” has fascinated generations, and even today, there are those who claim to see Annee passing through the Great House. A candle-lit evening tour of the Rose Hall Great House is a must for visitors to Montego Bay. Your guided exploration of the former home of Jamaica’s White Witch, Annee Palmer, includes captivating and chilling stories of love, murder and mystery skillfully told by knowledgeable guides. You’re sure to feel goose bumps as these eerie tales come to life in this grand estate, where ghost sightings have been reported over the years. Tours also give historic insight into this grandest of Jamaican great houses, now beautifully restored with 18th-century decor and antiques.

To conclude this fascinating adventure, you can visit the dungeon, now transformed into a tavern called Annee’s Pub. Many visitors find that the famous rum cocktail, known as “Witches Brew” helps banish the spirits of ghosts or black magic they sense still lingering in the mansion.

Do not miss this gift shop. There's something for everyone at affordable prices. The staff is friendly and not a bit pushy. It's a delightful experience.

We took the night tour. It was very hot and there are many stairs to climb. An older member of our group really struggled. It is interactive, so "ghosts" kept jumping out at you...after a while this was tedious. I am still glad we took the tour.

A very interesting house, was part of another tour which took place at night. They did their best to scare us without success! Would like to have seen it properly during the day.

Went this evening for the haunted tour. There was just 6 of us in our tour. Our tour guide was Roxy and she was great!!! The house is really beautiful and the history is very interesting. I would love to also see this property in the daytime. I loved the scares around every corner. The tour was lighthearted and funny... More

We visited the Rose Hall Great House after dark and thoroughly enjoyed our 'chilling' experience! Especially as it seems not all the mysterious noises and bumps were part of the arrangements! Two issues however: i) The grounds are not well lit and so walking after dark can be a bit tricky and even dangerous, given the uneven ground. My wife's... More

This is an interesting tour. Tells all about the White witch who took advantage of they killed her slave lovers. Legend has it her spirit still roamed the hallways. Got a book on her and it is very interesting. Knew women "could be" deadly, but this one really was. Highly recommend this tour.

A good few gift shops selling everything you need. There is also a liquor shop selling coffee too. Lovely little walk to visit the donkey and have a picture taken. A few benches outside the shops whilst you are waiting for your return coach.

A neat look into an infamous place. This Plantation has a sorted past and a bright future. The guide was very good but the Home was a bit creepy. Hard life livin' with a beautiful view.Stop down in the dungeon for a witches brew and a laugh with the bartender. Of course keep and eye out for Annie!
