Thoiry is a rare example of esoteric Renaissance architecture where the sun rises or sets in the central arch following the solstices. Home since 1559 of the Counts of La Panouse, the drawing rooms offer visitors fine family portraits, furniture and tapestries presented by costumed guides. The 300 acre gardens: Rhododendron woods, Maze, Autumn, Rose, and Perfume Gardens, perennial borders give year round pleasure. Thoiry's world famous 350 acre animal reserve is open year round.

This is a combined castle, parc and zoo visit. You will easily spend a day, though you won't feel exhausted in the end. There are several places to sit, drinkable water fountains and toitles throughout the zoo. There are a few animals that had some space to wonder around; the best of the zoo are the two glass tunnels, one... More

This place is definitely worth a visit. Main drive through is lovely, all animals were active and interested, even the Bears who are normally sleeping. Lots of cafes, covered and open picnic areas, vending machines and water fountains dotted all over the park. Very relaxed atmosphere, great kids play area. All the animals were relaxed and happy. The glass tunnels... More

Thoiry is is a zoo with a small safari park. The safari isn't the same as the real thing (multitudes of wild animals in natural habitat) but you drive around a circuit in your car (doesn't have to be a 4x4) and can see elephants, giraffes, zeba etc and, in a separate section, brown bears. For our two small children... More

Had a blast with the kids driving through the two safari's. The first has zebra's, deers, elephants, antelopes, rhino's, giraffes, camels, and other non-threatening animals. The second safari has mainly bears. In both safaris, animals literally walk right up to your car so in the bear section be sure to lock your doors and windows! The kids also loved the... More

This is a full day out we wished we had done a walk round of the zoo first and then the safari last just because there was ques when we arrived at the safari but as we was leaving the safari at lunch time there wasn't any. The zebras come up close to the car and there is plenty of... More

This location of this zoo is not convenient, as the public transport is not direct. In holidays it might be worse because of less frequent public transport. We went by taxi and hence we could not go on the safari. We saw only the part where we go by foot. The place is perfect for a picnic, quite calm and... More

The Thoiry Park is interesting and nice for the kids. You buy a ticket for the chateau (we didn't visited it), the zoo (traditional) and the safari (you drive by your on car). The Zoo is ok, but a little dirty (mainly the bathrooms, almost impossible). The best is the big cats area where there are a glass tunnel for... More

Well, an hour from Paris, but that's not bad, in fairness! We went on the coach tour from Montfort L'Amaury station and were treated to an excellent tour of the safari area, complete with tour guide (you may need to speak French to fully appreciate this aspect of the tour, but the views of the various animals make the trip...
