This museum tells the wonderful story of illicit production of Hokonui moonshine whiskey. A must see for locals and visitors alike. It is a fascinating story and one that belongs to Gore. Told very well at this unique attraction.

A very interesting museum giving you a good insight into local history of life in Gore during early settlement and the prohibition era. The introductory video is very good, the displays are very detailed and informative, and the tales of bootlegging exploits are quite amusing....More

Gore probably isn't most peoples destination, rather than an "en route to" place. Nevertheless, it's well worth a few hours break in your journey to experience the local history. Top of the list should be Hokonui Moonshine museum, lots and lots of information on Scots...More

We really enjoyed this great little museum. It exceeded our expectations. The history of the migrants from Scotland who brought their skills in making Whisky with illegal stills was fascinating.
