Our 13 year old is a devotee of the martial arts and this is why we came. For him, it was a great and spiritual experience. He loved being there, seeing the monks, seeing the show, etc. Kind of like a Kung Fu dream come true. As it was winter - it was very cold but also it was not... More

First of all, it was a bit surprising that one can now drive right up to the entrance of the Shaolin Temple. It is only at 1300 meters, the lowest altitude among the three famous wushu grounds of origin. (The other being Wudang and Emei). The temple is a bit smaller than expected. But the history is still amazing when... More

Well the truth is Shaolin Temple has turned to a company. It's too commercial and got a CEO! They got overseas branch's in expensive cities. To take picture with monks they might ask you for money. We had to pay around 13usd. But the hill near Temple is great, you can climb it to top which is buddhidarhma statue and... More

Getting to the temple is quite easy by public transportation. I took the bus from Luoyang central bus station. A tip: get your hotel write down the bus number/route. This really make things a lot easier. I'm not completely sure, but I think it was a 1.5~2hrs drive. At the temple entrance there were a lot of English speaking guides... More

This was my first visit to Shaolin Temple which is around 1 hr drive from Zhengzhou City in Henan Province of China. Beautiful landscape, historical temples. The greatest attraction is Kung Fu Show. The vegetarian food is also must try. I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the temple.

I kind of knew what to expect but wanted to visit the temple anyway since I was in the area. The location of the temple is fantastic, surrounded by mountains. Pity there was enough haze to block that out. The martial arts show by students is nice because it is realistic. One of the guys succeeded only in the third... More

The Shaolin Temple is immensely popular with Chinese tour groups and families. This place will be crowded with people whenever you come, making it seem like a bit of a tourist circus. The bad news doesn't end there. The temple was badly damaged at various points in history and much of it only dates to the last 20 to 30... More

The temple was described online as the best in Henan but it was actually a dirty dump. The path was dusty and also there was only one bathroom in the area that was called a five-star restroom but it was a fake and it charged you real money

The Shaolin Temple is located at Snow Mountain in Dengfeng County, Hennan Province. It is quite a distance from Zhengzhou, the capital of Hennan. Can be reached by bus and taxi. The entrance fee is ¥100 and you also have for the cable rides if you want the mountain sceneries. The place is now very commercialised and the chief abbot... More
