- BJLIreland62 contributionsBeautiful SceneryBeautiful coastal walk with stunning views of the ocean and nature . Do walk early in the day as it gets very hot. Stop off in Puerto Calero for coffee and return to Puerto del Carmen energised. Proper footwear important.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 15 November 2023
- Dan BrindleyLeicestershire, United Kingdom307 contributionsLovely scenic walk from PDCWe took a nice sunny stroll from PDC which took just under an hour with a couple stops for drinks and photos. Easy to do without any need to be too fit and there is only really one steep bit. Once there have a walk around and food and drink and then you have a choice to either walk back, catch the water taxi and jump a cab on the main road.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024
- mary wDublin, Ireland492 contributionsGreat viewsGreat views. Fairly good terrain Although parts are rough. Good footwear needed The little harbour is just lovely. Very charming. Plenty of places to eat & drink Lovely little shops Had a lovely lunch in Shenanigans Only downside was ticket seller for boat gave us incorrect information about where the boat was boarding. About 30 people were left either to wait for next boat or take a refund. Very disappointingVisited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 27 February 2024
- Niclp42Brynmawr, United Kingdom62 contributionsGreat Coastal walkGreat coastal walk to Puerto Calero. Took us about 45 mins to walk from Puerto Del Carmen Harbour. There's alot of loose stones so good shoes are needed and extra care is needed on the steps. We walked back this time but next time we will definitely have lunch and catch the Water Taxi back. Puerto Calero was a lovely little Town, more eateries there than shops but worth a visit.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 March 2024
- injerraShrewsbury, United Kingdom104 contributionsGreat walk. Don’t wear flip flops.I did this walk today. It’s a really nice walk although a lot of it is walking on uneven ground so flip-flops are not advisable as your feet will get covered in volcanic earth. There are also some pretty steep steps. I would suggest doing it early morning or early evening because there is no shade. I walked one way and got the water taxi back, which was wonderful. It cost €9 for one person one way but was well worth it.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 23 April 2024
- dublinladybird106 contributionsAmazing coastal walk from Puerto del carmenGorgeous walk, we did it twice. The views are amazing and we kept stopping to take photos. About 35 minutes walk, parts are rugged and there are steps and inclines to navigate. Highlight of my trip. Unmissable.Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 June 2024
- xxxJMKxxxBlanchardstown, Ireland18 contributionsLovely walk along the coast. This is a lovely walk along the low cliffs between the two towns. Edge of town to edge of town is only a little over 2 km but where you are staying, in for example, Puerto del Carmen could make that considerably longer. However the sections within the town are all on roads/boardwalk etc. So the rough ground section was only 2km . I'd recommend runners but I did it in sandals and it wasn't too bad. but definitely not flip flops. And , of course, carry water. The market in Puerto Calero is on Tue and Fri so these would be good days to go; market ends at 1pm . There is also a water bus between the ports if you don't fancy a return walk but its very manageable.Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 22 July 2024
- Sara C27 contributionsBeautiful peaceful walkDone this walk with my 11 year old and 8 year old on a cooler morning. Left around 8.30am and straight away the views from the top of the harbour were stunning. Lots of stray cats and volcanic remains to see along the way. Some parts of the walk are narrow paths with a sheer drop to the rocks below so keep children close. One part of the walk also has steps down to the rocky shore and then back up to rejoin a path. We took a slow walk so took us just over an hour. At the marina in Puerto Calero we then got a Waterbus back which cost us €38 for 2 adults and 2 kids which comes every hour. Would recommend the walk for families just for the sceneryVisited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten 2 August 2024
- FarAway7812694 contributionsBrilliant viewsI love this walk. It has been a number of years since I was last here, but this was so worth the effort. It is so invigorating. Beautiful cliff and sea views. Advice would make sure to keep well hydrated. Bring a lot of water with you. Also have good trekking shoes or sandals. It is an absolutely fabulous walk.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 1 October 2024

This is a clearly marked and well maintained path and reference in earlier reviews to a small ravine crossing appears is no longer to be applicable. Having said that the path has potential for slips due to gravelly surface and flip flops and high heeled or unsecured shoes are not suitable. Nor is it suitable for pushchairs (baby buggies), mobility scooters or aids.
We took the advice of earlier reviewers and took the €9 water bus back making an enjoyable round trip.

The walk starts and ends with pavement, but most of the rest is a dirt track. We walked it on a very windy day, late in the afternoon. It was certainly scenic looking out at the ocean and down at the cliffs. In a few places there are paths down to the water level, but since it was high tide we didn't go down to explore. There is an outdoor cafe near the marina in Puerto Calero which is a good spot to stop when you are done. Toilets are upstairs in the small shopping area in P. Calero next to the pharmacy.

Nice walk takes about an hour from the start (the big stairs) and is pretty rough in a few places hence the need for footwear a bit better than flip-flops. A collection of nice restaurants when you reach Puerto Calero and the option of waliking back or taking the water bus for about 8 euros. Managed this walk a few times, felt obliged to have beers on arrival. Bonus.

The beginning along the boardwalk in the harbour area is very attractive. There is then a series of zi zag ramps which take you up to the top of the cliffs. After a while the block paving finishes and then you are on natural path. The route is clear. The views over the cliffs are great. it's flat apart from where you go down and up a gulley. All in all it's an enjoyable walk of around 2 / 3 miles depending how much you look around Calero. Puerto Calero is basically a marina with a few modern bars / restuarants. It's not an old rustic destination. We caught the bus back but the stop is around 700m inland up a hill.

Great hike. At the entrance to the port of Puerto del Carmen take the stairs on the right and walk along the port. At the end go up the stairs and take the small road on the left. Then the path is indicated. Apart from a few stairs, the trail is rather wide and accessible. We have a great view of the coast, the first volcanoes and Fuerteventura in the distance. Arriving in Puerto Calero, we went to the very end of the port and took the water bus to Puerto del Carmen; so we were able to photograph the coast that we covered on foot. The cost of the transfer is 9 euros per adult.

We walked along here today and it was warm work. A fellow traveler commented that it was 30C today in January. It is probably about 3 miles from Puerto del Carmen port to our destination. There are lots of good bars and restaurants at both ends of this walk. We walked up to the bus stop and got the bus back to Puerto del Carmen for under 3euros for two adults. Bus every half hour. Or for a change of scene take the Waterbus back to Puerto. 8 Euro each adult. Last waterbus 17.15.

You can take bus 161 from Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero for €1.40. Then a wonderful walk awaits you along the rugged coast back to Puerto del Carmen. Certainly do

This is a great walk along the cliff tops overlooking the sea. Take water and a hat if it is a hot day. It can be done in just trainers, in fact I have done it in flip flops. If you are starting in PDC then you head along the boardwalk in front of the harbour until you reach the zig zag path taking you up to a fairly level walk first on a well made path and then on rough ground marked out all the way to Puerto Calero. There is a ravine to cross via steps with a handrail which is not for the faint hearted but not difficult. If you go on market day the market has never been huge but even less so now since COVID, so not much of a reason to go other than the exercise. There are nice places to eat or just to get a coffee in Calero and a pleasant journey back on the waterbus which will not run if the sea is rough and if they feel not enough people to make it worth their while so if you really want the waterbus back check with the office in PDC before you set off to see if it is running. Otherwise you can get the 161 bus back which runs every 1/2 hour from the bus stop near the costa calero hotel. This walk takes approximatley 40 minutes at a steady pace. BTW the market in PDC is no longer running, this is not due to COVID measures but for other reasons and is unlikely to start again anytime in the near future.

We went for a walk not knowing where we went to. We borrowed an umbrella from the hotel as it was rainy and windy with moments of sunshine in between. The walk gives superb sights and in Puerto Calero we had a nice drink there and a great walk back. Total about 10km and rather flat.

Is there anyway to avoid the steps at the start of the walk?
Written 22 August 2019
Not that I know of.The steps are ok if you are relatively fit but Iwouldnt do them if I had mobility problems...Just take your time,
Written 26 August 2019
there is only one tour of the timanafaya volcanic park, how you get there depends on weather you have a car or not,if you have a car you just drive there,if not there many company's that do the trip

weve only walked to calero from puerto del carmen and taken the water taxi back! we found that the price has increased quite a lot over the last couple of years and they are only at certain times. the walk is lovely but quite hilly in parts so you may want to bare this in mind with small children etc.
probably good to walk there and get the water taxi back if there are two of you but could work out expensive if you are a family (bout 30 euros for family of 4).

How far/long is the walk from PDC? Thanks for any replies :)
Written 31 July 2018
It’s about 45mins steady walk. It’s well worth doing with amazing scenery. Wear good footwear for comfort & ease along the uneven in parts trail. We took the water taxi there & walked back. We definitely do it again.
