We visited the Basilica on a Sunday, it was very crowded. Try any other day. Mass was in progress, so walking through seemed intrusive. Compared to cathedrals in Europe this is a disappointment. But it has been visited by two popes.

The basilica is worth a visit. The modern architecture takes a bit of getting used to, but all times impressive.

i went during the middle week which was great because it was empty only a few people here and there. The basilica itself is fairly small but it has great detail on its doors, on the outside of the building and within it. The surrounding...More

This basilica is a very spiritual place to go for praying and meditating. It is located in the city of Higuey. You can also buy and light candles just outside of the main entrance. Mother Theresa and Pope John Paul II both visited here years...More

Even if you're not a religious person or practice the catholic faith, this is a place of peace , beauty and worth the visit. Not to be miss is the Museum Altagraciano in an adjacent building right of the main entrance. Admission is about $1.50...More

The architecture is very unique. I went while they were holding mass, and had a chance to hear a little.

This is an architectural anomaly. HUGE spires , massive concrete structure but had no character or visually appealing external attributes. Recently constructed (about 40 years). has not developed any character in my mind.

So we came here while on a day trip out from our hotel and this was one of the stops. It was only a dollar each so we had a look around. This is a visually very pretty place and was well worth the dollar...More

We had a car because we flew in and out of Snto Domingo and needed the car to get to Punta Cana. We didn't want to take the bus and it was cheaper than to take a cab. We had no problems with driving. We GPS'd it before we... More
