This the location of one of the great Christian pilgrimages. I would recommend this highly. Tourists from Punta Cana can easily take the public transit system which drops passengers directly in from of the Basilica.

Since Higuey was the closest city (Punta Cana being not a city but the name of a vaste region), we hired a car and visited it. Well, not much to see, but considering the town, it worth a visit to this unusual catedral. For me it was not impressive, but depends on how devote you are or how many catedral... More

A huge nice Catholic Church with an even bigger park all around it. Excellent architecture and design. It is dedicated to Our Lady of Altagracia, patroness of the nation. The cathedral was raised to the honor of a minor basilica by Pope Paul VI on December 17, 1970. It was visited by Pope John Paul II during his visit to... More

Each time when I pass to Punta Cana I stop by to Basilica. It's amazing place, with strong energy. Good organization all around. They offer you guided tour, or even a photographer to make for you some nice photos. Park which surrounds the Cathedral is also amazing. But inside... just uauuu. You have to get to this place and fill... More

We didn't go inside the Basilica, but it looks really neat from the outside. We did go into the museum and there is a lot of really cool artifacts in. Worth the $5 per person to see.

The large concrete structure with decorative elements from the front. Enough raw inside. Interesting lighting of the altar. Worth seeing. Entrance fee 1UDS / person.

$10 is the typical cost of the tour......we were quoted $15 just an FYI. Be sure to see the museum first! It gives you more information about the sites. $5 is the cost for the museum tour. Well worth the money!

This Basilica is breath taking inside. I want to say there are roughly 13 Charles and each one have different and beautiful architecture and paintings.
