Set out to board a Safari-style Jeep at the crack of dawn. Camera in hand, get ready to canvas unbelievable sceneries of an unequalled wildlife. Be amongst one of the trekkers, joined by an experienced tourist guide, and cast out to explore nature’s bounty. Gallop in the outskirts of a lush, tropical countryside paradise. An exciting, yet challenging feat for the novice and seasoned horseback rider alike. Wander through a sugar cane plantation. Witness the traditional way the indigenous people plowed this crop. Go inside an artisan sugar cane mill, and watch an accurate re-enactment of a colonial-era trapiche (wheel grinder) being pulled by oxen. Back then, it was the only way of extracting the cane juice, a sugary elixir you’ll have a taste of. See this crop transform before your eyes, from cane juice to molasses and vinasse, until becoming the finest Dominican rum. Perhaps the best mature, ripe tobacco has been harvested in this land, befitting only the finest cigar brands in the world which use them in their manufacturing process. This tour would not be complete without learning hands on from master craftsmen, who generation after generation have hand-made the most sought after cigars. Alluring farmlands are the buildings blocks of new found memories. Charming pastel-colored country cottages flawlessly blend in with the lush vegetation. Frolic amid the foliage as you savor the most delectable exotic tropical fruits, freshly-brewed coffee and cocoa in its purest form. There are no better digestifs after eating a succulent typical lunch.

We wanted to go on an excursion to see the country and culture of the Dominican. We Took this tour through our Thompson reps recommendation. The price was about right for a day out with activities. We joined a group of around 25/28 people on the truck and met our tour guide Turbi. He was a great entertainment across the... More

The Bavaro Runner vehicle picked us up at the hotel on time. The vehicle was clean and in good working condition but the seats are terrible. We first visited a sugar cane plantation were you get to experience tasting sugar cane and drinking some rum. You will see tons of kids trying to grab the vehicle, they are mostly poor... More

An interesting day trip. Started with visit to sugar cane plantation. Got us a bit of information and got to taste sugar cane. Personally the only thing is I think this part took a bit too long, considering you are in the middle of a plantation and that's it. They also bring out the "donation worthy" items (buy hat, pouch... Great day trip outside the resort. Picked up 6 other couples from 2 different resorts. Definitely recommend wearing longer-ish shorts or leggings and gym shoes as you'll be horseback riding. Easy to have a lightly packed back pack. Horseback riding, sugar cane plantation visit, drive on a mountain, stopped at a 'typical' Dominican home, tour guide of vegetation, cocoa and... More

The San Pedro tour by Bayahibe Runners from La Romana was a great half-day trip full of cultural discovery. Our tour guide was very nice and informative we got to see and hear a brief history of the island, and tasted some delicacies and local rhum and got to take some home. Overall its a great half day trip that... More

I ended up on this trip vis the Viator web site that seems to have something to do with TripAdvisor and was a bit surprised as I was assuming a small 4X4 like a jeep or an SUV would be driving to pick us up in the morning. Here I was thinking it would be a bit more private. But... More

It was a full day tour. The "jeep/bus" seats were very high and narrow and traveling to and from (2 hours each way) made for a very uncomfortable ride having to constantly boost yourself back up on the seat, I do not recommend it for young children or those requiring assistance or walking devices. We had to constantly bring all... More

Thoroughly enjoyed this all-day round-trip excursion from La Romana to Santo Domingo. The trilingual guide provided incredibly detailed information on Dominicano history. The walking tour was well paced and Santo Domingo was quite warm so advise wearing a hat! We stopped at a souvenir store across from the cathedral and should have purchased desired rum brand from there as the... More

This is an all day trip but you get to experience a lot of the country outside the resort. We found this most rewarding and somewhat eye-opening as we experienced a level of poverty we are not used to, however the people everywhere were friendly and welcoming. The guide spoke four languages which was useful as all were needed on... More

Everything in the marketing literature held true on this excursion. The tour guide provided all the commentary in 3 languages based on the group. Experienced first hand the DR culture, people and products. Tasted freshly cut sugar cane, drank freshly processed sugar cane juice, saw cigars made, horseback riding, food was great, visited DR family home and walked their farmland... More
