The place was beautiful once we got up there, but the drive was scary. Our tour driver did a great job getting up there, but not something I would do again. The view from up there was amazing. If you are not so worried about...More

We were on our way to Tomar to see the Convento de Cristo and were driving through Ourem when we saw the castle on top of a small mountain in the distance. Naturally I had to see this. My wife was not as enthusiastic as...More

I found Ourem on Tripadvisor and asked our friends who live in Portugal if we could go there. We drove up the hill and parked near the church. We wandered around and up to the castle. It was fabulous. I just wish we could have...More

Wonderful place, amazes as soon as anyone spots it standing high on the hill. From the top, you can have an amazing view for several kilometers... However, the castle and palace are now ruins and are not being explored at all. Both the castle and...More

Lovely views and a well preserved ruined castle. The paths are well maintained and although I walked up from the Pousada within the walled town, where vehicular access is limited, it is possible to park cars just below the castle if you follow directions..

Essentially the castle is uninhabitable and the hardest part would be the drive up to the top of the mountain subject to weather conditions. The working village would be open all year but expect a lot of visitors during... More
