If anything, this is even more lovely than the excellent Praia do Barril. You can only get to this beach by crossing an estuary at low tide, and then its 300-400m walk. The parking is limited. All of this means, the beach isn't crowded. When...More

This is very pretty and peaceful with a lovely graveyard, white British style telephone box and fortifications. Tremendously long walk down steps to the beach and a shortage of parking. Not terribly good if you are less than mobile but the views are spectacular.

We basically just came for the views and the experience of a small, non-touristy village and we were not disappointed. There is lots of parking and we were there quite early so the restaurant was not even open, which was not an issue for us....More

Always nice to call in here even in winter. Beautiful beach. Off the beaten track. Nature at its best. Sunrise and Sunsets must be beautiful.

Having enjoyed an idyllic, magical day at Cacela Velha out of season, I was truly saddened (although not surprised) to read other reviews that inconsiderate tourists often ruin this charming little place. We always look to get off the beaten track and avoid tourist hotspots,...More

On a summer's day a perfect place to be and the village is a delight to wander around, small path will take you down to the sea and at low tide you can walk across to the beach

Is a beach in middle of the Ria Formosa. You can way on foot or in a litle motor boat. The price of the way is 1€. The village of Cacela Velha is very typical, with little houses and good people. Enjoy...

What an amazing surprise. All the benefits of this part of Algarve without the crowd. Access might be tricky but is worth. If you're close, chose this beach. And in top of that you have an amazing view of the castle

As far as I know the official answer is 'no'. There are signs at all the beaches (from Altura to Mata Rota certainly) prohibiting dogs but in practice many people do bring them and they seem to be tolerated. I hope this... More
