This is the former residence of Dr. Sun Yat-sen's wife and offspring. The mansion showcases the private life of Sun with special focus on his interaction with his daughters. The viewpoint is undoubtedly orthodox but the building itself is worth a stroll. Interesting it is maintained by the Taiwanese government.

An interesting attraction along Avenida de Sidónio Pais at the Rua Silva Mendes turnoff of is Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial House (free entry). Here you can learn local history related to the Founder of the Republic of China within an architecturally interesting property. Opening hours are 10am to 5pm (closed on Tuesdays).
The property was built for Sun Yat-Sen's first wife in 1912 and is an eclectic building taking elements of various European architecture. The exterior is peculiar if nothing else. The interior is more traditional with wooden floors, a courtyard and a very nice staircase.
Within the property, you'll find probably 8-9 rooms you can enter, each with history about the life of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen and his time in Macau. Several rooms are furnished with period furniture. You'll also find a bronze statue of this important historical figure to the right side of the Memorial House.
In the end, this is more a place to visit for history buffs and those with an inkling and interest in architecture for which this building is one of the most interesting historical properties to view in Macau.

Dr Sun Yat Sen, the founder or driving force behind the Chinese republican revolution and the modernization of China in the early years of last century, lived in Macau for a 'short but significant time', as Macau information leaftlets state. This was his house and where he practised medicine (though apparently it is somewhat rebuilt as it was destroyed in an explosion in the 1930s, some time after his death). Dr Sun was born in Zhongshan city, China, just north of Macau, and this atmospheric house is well worth a visit especially for those interested in this key period of modern Chinese history.
The house is set just off a busy street (opposite a police facility) on Av Sidonio Pais. It is well presented, has several original artefacts from his family on display, and it's where his first wife lived until her death in the 1950s. It has several interesting architectural features and one reflects that this must have been a peaceful and very pleasant setting below the Guia Hill, in the days when Macau was a quiet and traditional locale.
Admission is free, 10am-1pm, 2.30-5p, (closed Tuesdays). The museum staff we saw seemed to be disinterested and among the least helpful in Macau, but at least they are not bothersome. I would really want to go into detail, but "Bradjill" from this site has already such a comprehensive detail of the place I would not want to repeat. Rather I would tell you the practical details.
Is it worth visiting?
This is not the original house that Sun Yat Sen stayed in. Rather it is a replica with some genuine things like chairs, clothes or letters that he wrote kept inside. It is three stories high but only 2 are open to the public.
Each room will contain certain memorabilia, photos, letters that he once used and you can get a glimpse of the founding father's life back then.
How to get there?
This place is about a 20-30 minute walk from the St. Paul's cathedral or 10-15minute walk away from the Western Cemetery. If you choose to take a taxi (Which I did) DO NOT in anyway tell the taxi driver to get to the "sun yat-sen" memorial house. He or she will have no IDEA what you are talking about. Rather, just say "Guo Fu Ji nian guan" or the "guo fu" house. They know this man by this name "Guo fu" which means the father of the country. We took a taxi from the pier on the main island and cost about 30 MOP ($4 USD)
Verdict.
If you happen to pass by or you are a big fan of history especially with the founding father of Taiwan, do go. Otherwise, there are more worthwhile, authentic history or relics in Macau such as the military club or other churches better for you to pass the day.

We recently visited the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall during our recent weekend trip to Macau, finding this free attraction potentially interesting for those wanting to learn more about the founder of the Republic of China, which is more commonly known as the government in present day Taiwan.
This attraction is at the location of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's original residence in Macau. However, the present house was not lived in by this important historical figure. The original house was paid for and constructed by his grandson after a nearby building's holding munitions exploded. We found the building to be rather unconventional considering the eclectic mix of architectural designs. Anyway within this three story building, numerous rooms are set up with exhibits that relate to Dr. Sun Yat-Sen's life. The ground floor main room has a good timeline of events giving a pretty good overview of Dr. Sun Yat Sen’s milestones.
There is an active library of sorts found on the ground floor which is stocked with Chinese reading materials. The upstairs rooms are somewhat dry and we found them to be less interesting, although the current exhibition at the top floor featuring Dr. Sun Yat Sen's relations with America and his top American aid, named Homer Lea, was a sufficiently intriguing addition to the Memorial's collection. Lastly there is a bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen found in the outside area of the Memorial Hall.
Overall, those with a particular interest in Dr. Sun Yat Sen might enjoy finding this Memorial. Other visitors, particularly with short stays in the city, will probably not find this a priority visit and may want to concentrate their time and efforts on attractions that are more important and specific to Macau.
Tip: If you are planning to visit Hong Kong, you might want to consider visiting the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Museum in Central instead. This museum hosts a much larger collection of artifacts, pictures, letters and other parphenernalia pertaining to his life and offers a better overall experience.

Having heard a lot about Dr Sun Yat Sen in my childhood, i was pleased i got an opportunity to visit it. Sadly I couldn't spend much time going through the entire place.

While I've been to Dr Sun's memorial in Taiwan itself and his house here in Singapore, I've never seen a more personal house. This is the only one I know that featured letters from his daughter and son. It showed how much he is adored by his family and how much this place is more a family home than a resistance base.
While most of the rooms are bare, its good to read the plaques that accompany the artefacts as well as the documentary boards on the corridors. Aside from his children's letters, a unique animal he caught was also on display. What was also unique to this house was how it looked more Moorish or mosque like rather than your typical colonial houses.

Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial House (free entry) is the 3rd attraction included on the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) sponsored 'An Experiment of Creativity' self-walking tour, which covers the interesting and less visited area around St. Lazarus District in Macau.
The 'An Experiment of Creativity' starts at the Kun Iam Temple on Avenida do Coronel Mesquita before making way to Avenida do Sidonio Pais for a visit to Flora Garden and the Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial House.
This house is where the important historical figure, Dr. Sun Yat Sen stayed during his time in Macau near the end of the 19th century. The building is architecturally interesting, featuring Neo-classical, Rococo and even Islamic design and features. In addition to the peculiar yet pleasing design of the property, here you will find historical accounts of the life of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, particularly related to his role as the founding father of the Republic of China.
The Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial House is open from 10am to 5pm daily (Closed on Tuesdays) and can be comfortably seen in 5-10 minutes if you only fancy a look-see of the property. If you want to visit the museum collection property, best to allow 30-45 minutes of a more complete visit and experience. Then you can make way to the next place to visit as part of the 'An Experiment of Creativity' heritage trail.

This is the house where Dr. Sun Yat-sen was a doctor in his early years in Macau. It was rebuilt with help from the Taiwanese government in the 1950s.
It is worth it just to look at the architecture (done in a Moorish style) and the house is indeed very grand. The artifacts inside are rather limited (some articles of clothing, some ceramics) and most of the exhibition is in Chinese. But it is still worth it to see the house and you can combine it with nearby attractions.

We visited this museum as we wanted to learn more about the founding father of China. It is less touristy than other places and is well worth a visit for those interested in history. Dr Sun was born in Zhongshan, not too far away from Macau, and this was where he lived and practised medicine while in Macau.
