We were rather later than planned in arriving at the museum. It is a few kilometres away from the town but easy to find. The admission charge was OK and an English language guide sheet provided. The sculptures, sketches and paintings are spread over three floors in the studio of Aristide Joseph Bonaventure Maillol. In the basement a representation of... More

Not a big collection, but interesting sketches and small sculptures to give a look into his work. The place is nice to visit.

We are not great sculpture /arts fans but the peaceful ambiance of this very small museum was amazing. We love history and . Maillol's muse was part of WW 2 history on the very spot and helped many to escape to Spain over the mountains. We loved it .

Had a pleasant walk to the Musee from Banyuls (a lot further than we expected). Unless you are an admirer of Maillol and his sculpture and paintings however, this museum offers poor value for money. Of all the attractions we visited on this holiday to France, this one was the most expensive (and the smallest).

We liked the charming house in a charming location, quiet, tranquil. Also the film about Maillol's life in French.

Aristide Maillol was an amazingly sensitive and prolific sculptor and one does not have to travel only Banyuls sur Mer to see his work. We found one in Perth City Art Gallery, Western Australia and a stroll around Les jardins de Tuillerie in Paris offers a fair feast of his work. But it is Banyuls where he originated and lived... Situated in the vineyards and olive trees close to Banyuls the small museum is a tribute to Maillol who once lived there. It's a beautiful setting.

We walked to the musee from Banyuls sur Mer (4km, not 10, as stated in the review below) and found the variety of Malliol's work on display modest to say the least. The exhibition was supplimented with a collection of Marilyn Monroe photographic portraits, which were interesting in themselves. The building also shows a recreation of the artists kitchen and...
