Just been there with my brother for breakfast. We arrived quite early at 9am and the view and serenity were awesome. For the Easter long weekend we are staying in the nearby village of Kalentzi but even if you are staying in Athens it is well worth the trip. In the summer time you can combine it with a dive... We took a day trip from Athens to see the dam. Be aware you may get lost!!! because we did :) Google map things that there is a road where it shouldn't be :) We went there on a weekday. It was quiet and pleasant.

This is a wide lake which is divided by a bridge/causeway. You pass this lake when you drive from the south (after viewing Marathon ostensibly) and head north to Thermopylae. This is part of the scenic route to Thermopylae. From the homes and small towns in the lake area, it seemed to us that it was a vacation retreat kind... More

The Marathon lake was built around 85 years ago by an American company and it is supplying some of the water Athens uses. The dam is an impressive pieceof enginering. 85 years later and there are obvious leaks. It is beautiful to watch and walk around it. There is also a nice cafe on the side which seems to be... More

Just the spot to enjoy nature and marvel at the artful intervention of humans. The dame is the largest marble dam on earth. The lake is the holding containment for the water supply for all of Attica. You can sit at the Fragma cafe and enjoy a surreal view of water, moonlight and natures flora and fauna. There are ducks... More

This was such an unexpected find in Greece, just out of central Athens, a very beautiful and relaxing spot, you feel like you're in Northern Europe by the lakes, simply amazing. Great picnic spot

Driving through a very picturesque landscape you can have a really different time just some 48 km outside Athens. This technically man-made in 1931 lake, is big enough to relax someone's eye for good, after a noisy touring between so many antiquities all over Attica. This Lake was enough to provide water the whole Athens for 30 whole years (when... More
