T&R Theakston Ltd is one of the oldest family breweries in Yorkshire and home of the legendary Old Peculier Ale. Visit this historical brewery in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales town of Masham. Experience first hand the craft and skill that goes into brewing our beers, the brewing process is built on almost two centuries of tradition, passed down through five generations of the Theakston family.2013 is a very special year as not only are we celebrating the 186th year of our company's foundation in 1827,but also ten years since we bought the brewery back from Scottish Courage and once again became a family owned independent brewery. Have a pint of our legendary beer in the Brewery Tap - The Black Bull in Paradise, names after the original inn, the Black Bull, where Robert Theakston first brewed our legendary ale and also the site where our brewery stands, once known as Paradise Fields. We always have six differnent Theakston Ales available on tap including our famous Old Peculier served from wooden casks. There is plenty to do and see including the Cooper’s shop where the cooper crafts the wooden barrels – one of the last remaining working cooperages in the country. Leave plenty of time to browse the gift shop full of ‘Peculier’ souvenirs and other Yorkshire delights.

We didn't do the brewery tour but just had a few taster beers, very good. The shop is very good for keepsakes and presents, the bar itself is really nice, very old and takes you back in time. Worth a visit.

This is well worth a visit if you do the tour. Our tour was superbly presented and very informative. That this is still a working brewery made what we were seeing all the more fascinating. At 7.75 (includes a free pint) it was excellent value....More

Good tour of a brewery but a little bit noisy in parts and could not hear all of the commentary. The lady explained the process fully and came across very confident. I would recommend it.

This was AMAZING. I thought modern day breweries would be mainly automated but no the amount of original equipment used and physical effort is phenomenal. Old peculiar has never tasted than in the bar here. Beer lovers visit soon!!!

Despite their occasional flippant new products, Theakston is one of the traditional Yorkshire breweries located in the pretty village of Masham. We took the tour on a rainy morning and had a small group of visitors which was good because it took place when the...More
