Very good course but very hard as all links courses and has a number of blind shots - clubhouse very quaint and with the wind blowing found some of the holes very taxing - played well and scored 30 points of 9 hcap.

Royal Porthcawl GC is always in the Top 100 Courses in the UK and it's easy to see why. It's a beast! Right next to the sea and clearly susceptible to wind. One half of the clubhouse is a beautiful old building, the other half (facing the prevailing wind) has been rebuilt, presumably many times. There are some great holes... More

Thought it might be in better condition, even at this time year. Lots of on going work to be done. Sand in the bunkers, trimming of bunker surrounds and general maintenance, would improve the experience. Lots of great holes. Fair test. Definitely championship golf.

Beautifully maintained with stepped rough and fantastic bunkers. Great clubhouse full of history but without any condescension.

Day 16 of our marathon Links journey through Southport, Liverpool, Wales and more England to come. We really enjoyed our round at Royal Porthcawl. Quite a few solid fun tough holes, and strategically placed "noble" bunkers to swallow up unsuspecting drives. The greens had just been aerated and seeded so it was tricky to make putts (for me anyway). The... More

In the top 100 and living up to it! BUT be an experienced golfer so you will enjoy it........ Know how to hit them high and low, fade and draw but foremost know how to hit them straight. Keep a close eye on where it goes if you missed a shot because as on any links course ball will not... More

I can't think of anything not to love about Royal Porthcawl GC. The course has been on my bucket list to play for about 3 years - being a Welsh Man and Royal Porthcawl being rated the #1 course in the Principality, it would surely be illegal not to play it at some stage. Admittedly we happened to play on... More

We were lucky enough to be invited to play here by a member. We travelled from Worcestershire full of anticipation. We were not disappointed.I had never played on a links course before and was terrified of the first hole.It was a really sunny but breezy day and after 2 holes my driver never emerged from the bag again.I used long irons to...
