The charm of Fyvie ranges from its 13th-century origins to its stunning Edwardian interiors. The castle is home to a superb collection of arms, armour and paintings, including works by Raeburn and Gainsborough. Stroll around the picturesque loch, or visit the restored 1903 racquet court and bowling alley. Ghosts, legends and folklore are all woven into the tapestry of Fyvie Castle's 800-year history. Tradition claims that the castle's five successive families - Preston, Meldrum, Seton, Gordon and Forbes-Leith - each added a tower to this magnificent Scottish Baronial fortress. You can see their influences today among the medieval stones and the lavish Edwardian interiors, and imagine what castle life must have been like for the families and their royal guests - among them Robert the Bruce, Edward I and Charles I.

The inside of the castle can only be seen by a tour. The first is supposed to start at 11:15. (The castle opens at 11 AM in May.) There are two others but I am not sure of the schedule. If you are a National Trust of Scotland Member (or an American member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation),... More

It's a great castle with interesting interiors but I would try to visit on a dry day so you can also enjoy the grounds and gardens.

The exterior of the castle doesn't look like much, but if you're there you have to take the guided tour through the interior. The rooms are beautiful, especially the room with the organ is amazing. Best castle in this part of Scotland.

My wife and daughter toured the castle while my son-in-law and I toured the grounds. The gardens in the walled section were amazing. So many unique types of apple trees and other fruit trees and so many vegetable plantings and it's only April! The apple trees growing along the wall were all in flower and looked amazing. It was a... More

Fyvie Castle is set in beautiful gardens to the north west of Aberdeen. The National Trust for Scotland supported by a number of other trustees bought the estate in 1984 saving this magnificent castle and its collections for the nation. The history of the castle includes the Gordon , the Seton , the Leith and Meldrum families. Kings , steel... More

Great atmosphere, with wonderful story telling guides especially on festive occasions like Christmas, Halloween and easter. Brilliant during these times for kids. A wonderfully preserved castle. During the summer season there is usually lots of events on in the grounds. The lake is well worth a walk round, feeding ducks and geese. Beautiful gardens where you can purchase plants. Great...
