We have visited here several times over the years adopting different donkeys. We sponsored Alberto for many years until we got an email to say he had passed away so now we sponsor a little minature donkey named Leon. It is a very humbling experience, some of these donkeys have been so mistreated by humans yet still trust us. It... More

Situated next to the Madrid to Malaga Railway line and an hours drive from Malaga worth a visit to the refuge and the nearby laguna to see the pelicans. Each donkey has its own paddock and they are well cared for in their old age. For fifteen euros you can sponser a donkey for a year.

Fab place where rescue donkeys and mules are cared for. There are plaques that tell you the animals back story. Lovely place to visit. Go and support this wonderful refuge and pet these gorgeous donkeys. Only 2 euro in. Give them a fiver ;-)

Pretty much what everyone else has said really. Tie it in with a trip to the laguna a few miles away to see some pelicans too. Oh, and just about the most reasonably priced gift shop in the region.

El Refugio is a well set up and run sanctuary for donkeys and mules etc. Each animal has a pocket history that you can read and they can be adopted too to help raise money. The sanctuary is found along a dusty track near Antequera in a small village called Fuenta de Piedra. You can roam around the paths between... More

El Refugio del Burrito is run in conjunction with the Donkey Sanctuary (UK), and the animals are well taken care of. We were free to walk around to the various pens and see the rescued donkeys. An informational page for each donkey was posted with a description and history, even ratings on a donkey's 'curiosity', 'loving-ness', etc! Upon arrival we... More

If you like animals this is a place to go. Take the exit 132 of the A92; direction Sevilla and follow the signs. Entrance is free and adopt a donkey if you want to do something. Many donkeys with the discription of their past sometimes terrible treatment.

Easy to find as you drive into Fuente de Piedra and down a dirt track there it is. Good parking, easy entrance which is free and lovely to wonder round and say hello to lots of donkeys and a few mules. Well done to the staff.
