This place was rich with history and the story of it's beginning is a great love story. From a romantic gift to a haven for The Benedictines and the All girls boarding school they founded, there is much to see and learn. The beautiful Victorian walled gardens are not to be missed and the shops and restaurants are fantastic. There... More

As we'd already visited a few castles and abbeys and I'd read an informative but negative review on the property regarding the parking, so this wasn't a priority visit on my list, but I'm so glad we made it! Without any clear agenda in mind we happened upon this attraction mid-morning on a very frosty and chilly Saturday morning. Very... More

We visited the area under a heavy rain and honestly everything was greener (especially the gardens of course). The interior of the Abbey itself was not as interesting as the surroundings. We arrived on the site by hitchhiking from Letterfrack (no regular buses for the Abbey and we didn't have a car). We appreciated the victorian gardens as well as... More

My wife and I visited in Mid-September and still found the place very busy-possibly the busiest location on any of the places we saw on our trip and that included Blarney Castle ! However, lots of space to enjoy the castle and extensive grounds and take in the beautiful setting. Best to get there either before 10.30 or after 3.00pm... More

We decided to take a drive and ended up driving past the Abbey. We had nothing to do so we went in. I'm not sure what either of us was really expecting, but it was amazing. The house, mini-cathedral and garden were awesome. Such a beautiful setting and love story of the house. We would definitely go again.

I guess I expected to see more than 4 rooms at the Abbey but that was all that was allowed. It was too late in the season to appreciate the walled garden and the shuttle bus ran every 1/2 hour except when it stopped for lunch (?), which happened to be when we were there, and too cold and rainy... When you see this castle for the first time is just breathtaking. We had been in Ireland for several days before we saw this and this working abbey was one of our favorite stops. It takes a moderate amount of walking to cover the whole site, but there is a bus that takes you to the gardens every 10 minutes.... More

Unfortunately, it was raining when I visited. It costs to go into the main Abbey and grounds but on a sunny day it is worth the time. If you do visit on a sunny day give yourself several hours to tour the entire grounds.

We had a wonderful time here. In terms of places you have to pay for, this was the best value for money in the whole of Ireland: there is so much to see and do here. You can spend hours. The walled gardens are a delight. There is a nice cafe nearby. There is the Gardener's House, a walk through... More
