Nice afternoon out

Well signposted circular walk around this old reservoir. Was fantastic to see snd hear the birds and other wildlife. We were relatively alone.
The woodland part of the walk is tricky and requires your attention. It is quite eroded and unsuitable for pram or wheelchair. At times it felt quite unsafe.
But it is unspoilt and lonely. Which was great.

A beautiful natural-looking reservoir
Dec 2020
Tunstall is a lovely reservoir, very natural with a wood along one side, and it is an easy walk all the way around, although its is muddy in wet weather. On our last visit we walked to the nature reserve at the top end then across to Salter's Gate and up towards the dismantled railway line. It was a lovely walk, although incredibly muddy. We also had to skirt around a herd of cows.

There is parking at Tunstall, although I suspect it is really for the fisherman, who have a club there. The toilets are sometimes open. I believe the car park has been closed owing to the current pandemic.

Beautiful scenery and very peaceful

Loved this place. Limited parking space, but with a lovely picnic area, together with toilets. Despite the chilly day in mid-September, we sat out with our picnic, looking out over the water, on which were several fishermen in small boats, which from time to time returned to the fishing lodge just a few yards away.

Drove back down to the dam wall and parked nearby, before walking the length of the dam. Noticeably warmer by the dam than at the picnic site.

The road up to the dam is narrow and winding, but it's well worth doing.

Beautiful

A really fabulous walk here approaching from High Jofless where you get a stunning view of the reservoir. As another review mentioned the road/parking was fairly chaotic so we were pleased to be on foot. The benches along the dam top are a great place for a sunny picnic. The walk all round the water was very attractive.

Beautiful Spot.

We picked up the 'Tunstall Reservoir 7.5 mile walk' leaflet by the Wolsingham Wayfairers (check out their site and other walks) and covered most of the perimeter of the water...it is well marked, incredibly beautiful and some nice spots for a little break.

I would recommend good shoes for the far side of the reservoir (through the edge of the forest) as the trail is a mix of rocks, bumps, roots and so on... easy enough to walk but good shoes a must.

Best to walk there

The road to the reservoir was winding and lots of pedestrians so needed care. We enjoyed our walk from Wolsingham but was rather challenging as uphill on a hot day. Peaceful by the reservoir, although it was busy.

Peaceful circular walk around the reservoir.

Peaceful circular walk around the reservoir.

Quiet and relaxing.

Path rocky and narrow in places. Not suitable for wheelchairs, pushchairs or anyone with mobility problems.

Car park and portaloo but no other facilities for non fishermen.

Several nice spots for a picnic. Uncrowded.
