The "Museum Fossil" is a community museum that exhibits in situ the fossil specimen holotype "Kronosaurus BOYACENSIS" described by OLIVER HAMPE 1992, this animal, a PLIOSAUROIDAE Cretaceous period Early, with 115 million years old, was a marine reptile predator of large, thick, short neck, four powerful flippers, short and muscular tail, breathing through lungs and gave birth to calves directly into the water. We also exhibited the holotype "PADILLASAURUS LEIVANENSIS" (Parra et. Al., 2015) A Brachiosauridae, originally from the Cretaceous period Early, with 130 million years old, is a dinosaur of great stature, with over 12 meters high and 17 meters long, unique in its kind. Our museum also exhibits a beautiful head of Kronosaurus as well as an interesting tip from another Kronosaurus and vertebras of this animal, and fragments of limbs and muzzle of that powerful marine reptile ... In our collection we have traces of Ichthyosauria, marine reptile breathing through lungs and gave birth to calves directly into the water, in the form of snuff, big eyes and a powerful flukes, one that animal was a hunter deep water. We also exhibited a considerable amount of Ammonoideas, commonly called "Ammonite", our collection of Ammonite allows us to observe the processes of biological change over time, or what is the same, allows us to observe the evolution, as well as the different types of materials rock that make up the fossils of the region. Our small but important collection of bivalvias, fish, crabs and turtles allow us to observe dynamic different ecological and diverse ecological niches, from benthic animals as some bivalvias, through sea animals open as Ichthyosauria and fish, covering metropolitan animals like PLIOSAUROIDAE, reaching close to the coasts, where animals like ammonites, crabs and turtles dominated the scene. Also, our museum exhibits remains petrified plants Cretaceous period, we have evidence of roots, stems, leaves and seeds of gymnosperm plants. Last but not least, we exhibit some fossil remains of mammals of the Cenozoic Era, to be known Mammutidae and other remains still unidentified.

You need to take into account us basically a micron museum built around a huge fossil (dead were it was found!). Its brilliant for its size. Quite worth it, great information, educational, interesting and a huge exhibit contained in its small building. The chronosaurus itself is stunning. The trip to get there is full of other interesting places to visit.... More

It's not the most amazing thing I have ever seen, but they do some amazing things there. It's cheap to enter and it only takes a short time to see the whole place. Worth a visit if you like museums though.

So, people had mixed things to say about this. I wasn't quite sure why. The place is called "El fosil". There is a giant fossil displayed as you go inside. What else were you expecting?! Seriously though, it was interesting with a few other bits and pieces. If you like dinosaurs, fossils, rocks and the like, then you'll enjoy this.... More

Great display layout and many, many fossils. Spectacular and worth exploring.if you're in the area. We spent an hour there which wasn't really enough time to look at everything in detail.

El Fósil means THE fossil meaning it only has 1 (one) fossil... which it's nice but still 1. If you are near this area and you want to rest, have a coffee or support local people, you can stop by. If not, don't plan a family trip (about 20min drive from downtown) with high expectations.

The only thing worth it is the lar fossile it holds, but the museum right infront has better explanations and setting, I did both but next time I would only go to Centro de Investigaciones

I did not expect a lot from this museum, I just wanted to see the Kronosaurus. And I got to see it. There was not much else to see, basically only a disordered collection of many similar looking ammonites. Visit time 5 to 10 minutes, not more.

You don't need more than 15-20 minutes to visit this site but it is an impressive specimen of a near complete kronosaurus fossil, apparently in situ. There are some other fossils here as well but if you really want to learn about dinosaurs and fossils don't miss the nearby CIP.

Very small museum with just one highlight: A huge fossil found some years ago in the near. Furthermore there are many ammonites shown.
