Sadly this ferry is no longer in operation. Engine failure made the service between Mwanza and Bukoba come t a halt. New ferry is promised by the president but still not in service up to now (November 2016)
Taking the ferry from Mwanza to Bukoba is a great experience. Go 2nd class if traveling alone, for a 6-bunk shared room. 1st class if couple or with 1-2 kids. All this is mute though for now since the ferry hasn't been running since Dec...More

Managed to get a first class bed on the day of travel by turning up at the booking office at 8am. Comfortable journey although hot in the cabin. I enjoyed watching the loading of the boat and how high the plantains were stacked in deck....More
