This is a pretty English village with pub, The Griffins Head, Village Hall, PLayground and many old stone houses. A few miles away are Newstead Abbey and Papplewick Pumping Station - great places to visit.

Papplewick is a very pretty village with a volume of history and heritage. The Pub, the Griffins Head, has much of the same and serves delicious meals. There is also the Pumping Station which, when open, is extremely interesting.

After a wet and windy stomp around Newstead Abbey, my brother and his wife treated the four of us (my wife too) to a late Sunday lunch at the Griffins Head. Never having been before, I didn't know what to expect. The plate comes laden with a couple of slabs of meat, (Beef in my case, turkey for my wife)... More

Passing through (actually looking for the pumping station) stopped on spec for lunch. Good village pub/restaurant with homely corners and a comfortable atmosphere. Not the sort of place where you might expect to find a Tapas menu as well as the normal pub grub and pizzas. We had four between us two with some bread and they were lovely. Prawns,... More

We visited Papplewick when it was in steam and were not disapointed. The landscaped gardens are very attractive and surround an engine cooling pond that is ornamental and even has a fountain. There are a number of auxiliary buildings containing other engines, a cafe and a blacksmiths forge. The boiler house contains six Lancashire type boilers, one of which was... More
