An interesting national trust property. You can wander from room to room with few barriers. Guided tour informative and entertaining. Had lunch in the tearoom freshly made sandwiches and home baking. Beautiful walled gardens. Didn't visit rest of the grounds as it was raining

Because of the links between the furnishings, decor etc. and the families who lived there (maybe helped by takiong the guided tour) the house is fascinating, Don't miss out on the walled garden as I'd rate one of the best I've seen in UK. The...More

I am trailed around many many castles by my husband and I tolerate some, and mildly enjoy most. But this one stood out as one of the best we've been to. I loved the story of Professor Lorimer suggesting and being accepted as an improving...More

I don't think so and the website will clarify. You approach the front entrance on LHS of castle and go past it to the gate in the wall. There is a suggested donation box. Enjoy!
