The museum is compact but has an excellent and comprehensive display that gives a good sense of the history and geography of the region. For us, it was particularly interesting to see the works of a Canadian artist on display and to also see the descriptions in English, as well as Swedish. A very interesting day out from Lulea and... If you're in Jokkmokk this is a must. The museum cover both the history and present sami culture. However the in-depth is missing and a lot is about the tales of the north from the sami perspective.

If you feel like an indoor activity in Jokkmokk, to take the time to visit the museum. It's very well organized in the way and present information about the Sami aborigines, who were the first inhabitants of that area. It's a family museum, with even some fun features for the kids-- including a small play area. I got a kick... More

This museum explains the history and culture of the Sami in well made exhibitions. You can also have a English audio guide which is quite handy. In my opinion, there could have been more spots were you could use the audio guide. In the section with the drums was hardly any information in English. But definitely a great museum which... More

This thoughtfully presented museum informs visitors about the life, history and culture of the Sámi nation, Europe's only officially recognised indigenous minority. Our visit to this stunning museum certainly helped to put into context all we had learned about the Sámi on our passage along the Kungsleden Trail. There is a good mix of static displays, reconstructions and didactic panels... More

Very nice museum about Sami culture and tradition. Drums that explain myth and religion, traditional clothes. The importance of the nature, and the link between people and animals (reindeer and bears). Very interesting place. there is also a nice book and handcraft shop in the museum.

It didn't seem interesting at first, Then I got a radio guide and I completely lost my self in the Sami world. Walking around the labyrinth of different rooms with different themes was fantastic.

one of the best museums I've ever visited - gives a very rounded and complete understanding of sami life. Very comprehensive displays - set aside at least 2 hours if not more for the visit

This was recommended as a visit and it was very worthwhile. Extremely colourful and well presented giving a history of the Sami people of the “Reindeer Country”. Exhibition of their different national dress, all their implements and life style. Added to it was a “270 degree imax” screen presentation, overflying vast tracts of the countryside – over mountains and into... More
