We did not feel so sorry for Karen Blixen having to return to Denmark when we saw her beautiful family home on the coast. It is a spectacular setting on a hill overlooking the water. There are lovely gardens and a short, pleasant walk up to her gravesite. The house is very interesting and still furnished with all of her... More

The Karen Blixen Museum, located about 30 minutes north of Copenhagen, is the house where Karen Blixen was born and to which she returned after her 17 years in Africa. It is where she wrote her famous novels, Out of Africa and Babette's Feast. We participated in the English guided tour. The rooms where Karen lived are almost exactly as... More

A must for fans of Karen Blixen. Well preserved house of the writer and artist. Just north of Copenhagen. A bit tricky to get there by public transport. Entrance fee 150kr. Lovely cafe.

Beautiful house and a great story. Karen Blixen was an avant garde feminist, an adventurous, a great story teller, a painter and finally a great writer. She lived in this house once he returned from Kenya where she spend 17 years (1914-1931). There she got married with a cousin and later had a great love with a pilot who was... More

I do love Karen Blixen, so this was a 'must' for me, but I do recommend a visit: it's a lovely place, full of inspiration. Have a walk there and you will be surrounded by the blissful spirit of Karen.

Like many visitors to this intimate little museum, I have long been fascinated with the work and life of Karen Blixen/Isak Dinesen. In many ways my visit was a kind of pilgrimage. I did not know what to expect except that I expected to feel a little of an anticlimax. But, not at all..... At first, I did not know... More

People know Karen Blixen from the film 'Out of Africa' but this was a small time in her amazing life. The house museum gives you a good insight into this progressive and visionary woman. The staff are lovely, There are scheduled times to visit the house so check those before you arrive. The gardens are beautiful and worth exploring.

As I live on the African continent and came like Karen as a young bride to it from a small country in Europe I have always been fascinated by the Danish author Karen Blixen. ( Isak Dinesen) She was an extraordinary person far ahead of her times. She was also a gifted painter and a deeply feeling person and it... More
