Lovely reindeer

Not much going on really but nice little shop where I bought a super reindeer skin. I think it was possible to go and see the live reindeer too but there was no sign of them.

If you miss the very short summer season, all These houses are locked and the whole area can be visited in few minutes. As it is more or less the only touristic place, Arvidsjaur definitively misses a chance!

It doesn't take more than ten minutes to read the information boards at the entrance to this large collection of Sami huts and then wander around. As the huts are identical and locked my interest waned after a couple of photos. This is something to do in a town where there isn't much else happening.

I am generally enjoying Sweden in winter, i just wish more things were open! Apparently people roam about in costumes and guided explanations. In winter its a bit of a look see and read the signs. Still worth a look

I am sure that if you visit this remarkable collection of genuine Lappkåtor when they are open it will be really interesting. We travelled 3 hours to see a huge collection of these Sami cabins but they were all closed. There was very little else to see. The time to visit is during a Sami market if you are lucky... More

We visited in August and got onto an afternoon tour. There were a large number of Sami permanent dwellings, one of which was open to us. We gathered in there and had our Sami guide talk on their culture and the significance of Sami Town. It would have benn much more interesting, and culturally valuable, if we had been able... More

This isn't really an open air museum as it is still used by the Sami when they have significant ceremonies etc. Forest Sami will descend upon Lappstad (a slightly derogatory term) from their respective areas. Think of it as an occasional motel. Still, it's fascinating and worth a look.....even when it's all closed up.

Great information on the Sami culture provided by a Sami! We learned a lot about indigenous population that we were completely unaware of.

Nice open-air museum, though if you want to fully experience it, either go during Winter market, or in Summer, when you can visit the houses inside, and buy handicraft products made by the Sami people. Will go there again!

Interesting reading about all the seasons of the Sami people. We visited when they had their annual lasso competitions got to eat raindeer and we were invited to look in to their small wooden houses what a privalige.
