I am not sure if you have to see the interior of the castle. Quite boring and let's say nothing spiritual. However the building itself as well as a big park and great coffee in the coffee shop worth paying your attention. You will be lucky if you catch the concert in the Gödöllö theater. Check the program in the... More

The renovation so far here is impressive even if there's still a long way to go, and it rivals a lot of the Habsburg sites in Vienna. This makes a great half-day trip away from the bustle of Budapest, easily accessible on the suburban railway and literally across the street from the train station. The inside is a little underfurnished... More

No photos inside, not even of the costumed guides on the naturally sunlit staircase. That seemed unfriendly, particularly in a place that has few period furnishing (the Soviet troops that occupied most of the property burned furniture as firewood for warmth, and other pieces had been sold off). So it is lovely place, and some punishing have been replaced, though... More

This is one of my favorite palaces to visit. It makes for a great day trip. They have a new renovated section of the museum that is really educational, interesting, and beautiful. Absolutely love the rich tangible history that this palace offers. Plus the gardens are a delight to stroll through in nice weather. The "Nosztalgiafotó" is a must. You... More

The Royal Palace of Godollo is one of the largest Baroque castles of Hungary. It was built at the beginning of the 18th century and is also known as Grassalkovich castle to the first occupant, who was a confidant of Maria Theresa. The palace is best known as the summer palace of empress Sissi and emperor Franz Joseph. The empress... More

Slowly but surely being renovated after being ransacked by the Russians during the 50 years of communist rule that blighted Hungary. Great place to visit. cross over the road, across the local railway track and take a walk in Sissy's park and get one of the best ice creams money can buy at the small cabin just before the park... Whether you're Hungarian or not, this castle really gives you the late 1800s feel. I've visited a few castles around Hungary, but I've never felt so much in touch with the actrual royalty I learned about at school, especially our idolized Queen, Sissi. The whole complex is nicely renovated and well maintained, and just enough for a morning or afternoon... More

Loved walking around this vast castle and all of the rooms. Everything is neatly laid out and lots of descriptions. Once you finish inside, and check out the very nice gift shop, make sure you walk the grounds and walk down the path to the left where the garden centre/shop is. I was so happy to see such a lovely... More
