A great place to get away from the rest of the world and find tranquility. There is nothing there but grass, wind, seagulls and stunning views. And the getting there and back is out of this world on Ireland's only cable car which takes you over a raging sea.

We went here as a last minute decision and on arriving and seeing how old the cable car looked I had second thoughts! It can only carry 6 people at a time. Each one-way trip takes 7 minutes and with a brief stop at either end this means a round-trip is 15 minutes so not many people can use the... More

The whole peninsula is stunningly beautiful, and the cable car to the island is a unique experience. It was a beautiful day and I could see all the way to the Skelligs. Sadly there are bus tours of the island only in high season, and my walking days are over. So I contented myself with the glorious views and seabirds.... More

For an 8 euro return each you will not be disappointed, it can be a little daunting when it first starts off but soon forgotten once you take in the most amazing landscape. It was quite windy when we visited and we thought it might be closed, however it wasn't to our surprise and to be honest it wasn't as... More

As part of a 4 day trip to West Cork we visited Dursey Island and really enjoyed it. Getting the Cable Car over was a great experience. We did the bus trip on the Island which cost €8 and was worth every cent as our guide was full of info which you'd never get if you just look around yourself.... More

Took the very unique cable car ride over and went on a fantastic walk around and over Dursey Island - approx 13kms in total. So peaceful and the scenery is magical. Well worth adding to any walking trips around West Cork.

A beautiful place full of history. Trip advisor has the wrong address. This place is at the end of the beara peninsula and many many miles away from crookhaven.

Dursey Island offers easy hiking along well marked trails. We enjoyed the history plaques explaining the various sites along the way.

We had a lovely trip over to this beautiful enchanting island via a cable car - the only one in Ireland. Highly recommended for hiking around the island. We had two young children so we opted for the mini bus tour of the island, John our tour guide was very helpful and gave us so much history of the island.... More

If you get the chance, you must visit Dursey Island, a 20 min drive from Castletownbere. The Cable car is a wonderful experience and is not for the faint hearted but once you cross the Dursey Sound and land on the Island and begin your hike to the other side of the Island you will see the true beauty of...
