The monastery is high up in the mountains, when going here be sure to take a car that can go up on the high mountains. The architecture is amazing but also the view. There isn't anything else around so plan other activities as well for the day.

The Monastery of Saint Jovan Bigorski is a Macedonian Orthodox monastery located in the western part of Macedonia, near the road connecting the towns of Debar and Gostivar. The monastery church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist.

Sveti Jovan Bigorski (St John of Bigor) is inside Mavrovo NP. The guide books often describe it as a fairytale complex in nature's beauty spot; this is deservedly so. It's a beautiful place to visit. The road views to there are great and they would be even nicer if there weren't some industries like hydroelectric or gravel extraction plants; the... More

The beautiful setting of the Monastery and unusual architectural forms of the particular objects, that`s the strengths of this place. The visit inside does not make such a strong impression. Anyway, if you step in Mavrovo National Park, do not miss this historic monument.

The views are amazing, but the Monastery itself wasn't what I expected. We planned to spent there a few hours, but you can see it all in half an hour. It's pretty, but I guess it's not for someone who doesn't come to pray.

Visited this monastery on the way from Ohrid to Skopjie. It is a must do when in the area of Mavrovo. The monastery is pretty huge and very well maintained and comes with a long history and a superb view.
