If you're at all interested in history this is a must visit. The ruins are surprisingly intact for being something like 1,200 years old, with it being very easy to see what the layout of the fort was like. It is quite exhilarating to actually stand there on Hadrian's Wall looking North over what would have been barbarian territory. Feeling... More

We loved visiting this ancient Roman fort. The site was great and the museum even better. The refreshments were superb as well.

Park in car park near the National Trust shop and cafe. Half mile walk to visitors centre, 6min video to watch which shows you how the ruins would have looked when complete. 5 min walk to ruins and further 5 min walk to see Hadrians wall. It was very winding and wet when we went, not ideal for walking or... More

Visited the fort on a very windy day, hence the title. We can only imagine what it was like for the men who built and lived in this place , incredible strength and ingenuity in very dangerous times and the siting of the wall at this point can truly be appreciated . Good information sites and friendly staff the chance to... More

This is a great place to visit and the biggest fort on the wall. This is also the only place you can officially walk on the wall. The mussem is very small but gives alot of information about everything to do with the area the wall. Well worth a visit

Stunning location, impressive ruins, good small museum and the opportunity to walk on a section of the wall. Food and drink options are a bit limited in the visitor centre and it is a steep climb to the site, but definitely worth it.

Bottom line: Great place to visit on a summer day, gorgeous views. Bit of a hike from the car park to the fort (8-10 minutes up a steep hill). Use the toilets when you arrive because they're near the car park. Details: There are gorgeous views from Housestead's. There are free tours given regularly. The visitor's center was interesting, and... More

Even though I visited when it was cold, wet and windy I loved the visit. So evocative and well presented. Small museum but amazing value all round. Highly recommended and wonderful scenery.
