Thanks to various water taxis, this track is easily accessible and can even be enjoyed by those with not much time to spare. Otherwise you can walk the whole track in a few days. Book early, as huts fill up fast! The walk is very...More

In a short period of time you have such a variety of landscapes that is unbelievable! Profoundly beautiful rain forest, extraordinary views of the coast, snowed mountains, creeks, rock formations, beaches, all very well guarded by some sandflies depending on the weather and time of...More

First of all stay with Scott and Jocelyn at Abel Tasman Lodge. Take from someone who has been all over the area and tried staying at various places. It's five stars for the area. The track itself is best walked during the winter. Less crowded...More

A lush national park situated on the coast. Very pretty bays with yellow sand. We walked a section of the track, the Loop Track. This was quite strenuous at times and took about 6 hours with stops. Mainly through forest, then out to some of...More

Started the track at Marahau and went through not too far to Tinline Beach. So many beautiful little bays and the track is kept fantastic by DOC. Only complaint is the state of the toilets at the DOC carpark. I was ashamed to be a...More

We took a catamaran boat thru the national park. The boat ride itself was refreshing and enjoyable. Some of us got off on one of the stops and hiked to pick up the boat on the next stop. The boat went from one spot to...More

Words are less to describe the beauty of this 60km walk. We were lucky to have spectacular weather which made every bit of the hike totally worth it. Very well maintained track with all amenities at main campsites. Only big campsites have fire, smaller ones...More

Very quiet and restful with plenty of water activities and beautiful beaches and walks. Stayed in Kaiteriteri - all restaurants close very early (last orders before 7pm) and not a lot of choice for eating out, but a really special place. We stayed in one...More

We will be visiting that area next January, driving up from Punakaiki for 2/3 days and are trying to decide where to stay in the Nelson/Kaiteriteri area. We are in our late 60's and can't do the whole A. T. track, but would love a nice beach, a few good walks and getting out on the water in an area with a good restaurant or two. Tall order???

No restaurants on the track other than Awaroa. Every beach is fabulous though my favourite is Te Pukatea. Aim to do walks of around 3 hours. Sea kayaking is a good option.

My husband and I will have 2 nights but only1 full day in Sept to explore part of the coast track. We are looking at staying in either Marahau or Kaiteriteri. Which would be the best to stay? Also what part of the track is most scenic.? Looks like the Marahau to Anchorage is a popular walk. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I agree, Kaiteriteri probably best. Great views whichever walk you have time to do. Enjoy yourselves.
