Fort George, is the mightiest artillery fortification in Britain, if not Europe. Its garrison buildings, artillery defenses bristling with cannons and a superb collection of arms - including bayoneted muskets, pikes, swords and ammunition pouches - provides a fascinating insight into 18th-century military life. Living history programme, audio tour available in six languages and a children's trail.

Stunning views. It's cool that it is still an active base. The museum and the museum attendants were great. Must see.

Great place to visit with excellent views over the Moray Firth to Channory Point where with a bit of luck you might see the dolphins. This was built after the battle of Culloden to suppress any future uprising of the Jacobites and is still a working barracks to this day.

Brilliant piece of British history. The fort takes a few hours to explore all around it. There is a sign with 3 suggested routes that vary between 1 and 2 hours to walk around the fort, but if you enjoy the views and like taking pictures, expect to be here longer. Walking the walls of the fort, you're exposed to... More

Fort George is well worth a visit. It is suitable for all ages. Built to help control the Jacobites the atmosphere of the Fort takes you right back to that era. The atmosphere is enhanced by the fact that it is still a working military base. The views both in the Fort and over the Moray Firth are spectacular. If... More

This working barracks is steeped in history with an extremely interesting museum. The small chapel is beautifully kept and the views from the ramparts are superb. Well worth a visit.

For a historylover Fort George is spot on! Me and my son, 4 yr old. He loved it too, especially trying out army clothes in The Highlander Museum. Very friendly staff, expect the woman in the cafe. The view is stunning.

Took my 9 yr old son for the day . He's a WW2 enthusiast and absolutely loved it but it's a great day out for the whole family. I loved it too. Very interesting and lots to see. Nice little cafe and miles of battlements to wander round with stunning views. Museum was also great. We've been back 3 times... More

As a member of Historic Scotland this particular site had been high on my list of places to see. We weren't disappointed. On arriving the staff and volunteers who manage this active army barracks were friendly and helpful. With an audio guide to hand and a small map we were soon enjoying the various sights and tales of the Fort.... More
