About
The Sao Benedito Chapel, also known as Igrejinha dos Carneiros, was built in the mid-18th century by the Viscount of Rio Formoso, one of the first owners of Carneiros Beach. The last major reform of the Chapel took place between 1999-2001, and was promoted by its current owner, Zaldo Rocha Filho, heir and grandson of Rosalvo Ramos Rocha. At that time a semicircular frontal terrace was raised preventing the advance of the sea. Roof, floor, lighting, everything has been replaced or restored, but always preserving the Chapel’s original architecture. To this day Zaldo maintains, conserves and restores the Chapel with his own resources, through the Church’s rental for weddings and baptisms. With these same resources, coming from the chapel rents, the owner also promotes social actions through donations to various institutions, including Father Enzo Institute, NACC (Support Center for Children with Cancer), IMIP (Medical Philanthropic Organization),and the Catholic Parish of Tamandare City.

It's the postcard of the region, and really a nice view every time. Now you have to consider the flocks of tourists arriving every 15 min from boats (it can get really crowded and noisy at times) but after 10 min things get manageable once more.
We walked 3 km from the southern tip of Carneiros beach were we spent the day (and back)

The true highlight was the beach of Carneiros, but the chapel is a nice addition. No longer an active chapel but one can get married there for a R$15.000 donation.

At the end of "Praia dos Carneiros", in the Southern coast of Pernambuco State, you will find a small and beautiful baroque chapel! This is the 18th century's "Capela de São Benedito": a high-end wedding destination! Although related to the Catholic church, it is private and opens only for ceremonies previously arranged with its management. On holiday months, there are reports of queues for pictures. Last June, we found no queues and pictures were easily taken, but the church was obviously closed. Enjoy!

A unique landscape, warm and transparent waters. Access can be via public access, approximately 800m away, or by using the little church itself, which is well worth it.

Boats crowd the entrance, access via the highway is terrible because hotels make it very difficult, they charge an absurd 20 reais at the entrance!!!!

Too beautiful, historic chapel, on the beach of Carneiros. Currently, it belongs to a private initiative, but they do not charge a set value to enter there, just a contribution from people. She's beautiful, charming.

I loved it… just like the photos! The bad part is that it was very full of tourists so the photo is a bit
little difficult to take off! Better to go in the morning, very early…

The chapel is very beautiful, incredible landscape, which is why it becomes one of the main tourist attractions. The chapel is closed, mass is celebrated only on the last Sunday of the month (see other websites). We were in low season, but there were a lot of people to take photos... We took the trip to the place by boat, privately, so Mavio, who took us, waited for the tourists from other boats to leave so we could take cooler, more private photos. There are some stalls for drinks.

Diocese de Tamandaré, a igreja matriz também é linda e à beira mar (São Pedro). O valor varia conforme a data e horário escolhidos para a cerimônia. O padre de Tamandaré é um amor, excelente Celebrante para o casamento!
