It's a few hours drive from the city of Bangkok but it's worth the effort. There are actually hotels located nearby as such, one can make a one to two days trip down here to visit the historical site. I would say that the structures have been well taken care of and it's quite a sight to behold entering the... More

I hopped on a motorcycle, and scoured the area for these monuments, armed with a good map and a GPS. Stop first at the Phimai Museum if you need help locating these ruins.

Beautiful old Khmer temple complex, centrally located in Phimai, which is a pleasant place to stay anyway.

Really enjoyed our visit. The grounds are in fabulous shape and the ruins are mesmerizing. Lots of great photographic opportunity, We came from Buriram to Korat in a minibus for 198THB/per person and then caught the public bus from Bus Terminal 2 to Phimai for 50THB/per person. Took most of the day, but well worth it. Paid 100THB/per person to... More

Nice alternative to see Khmer ruins when you don't have time to visit Angkor Wat in Cambodia. Not as big and impressive as Angkor Wat, but on the other hand it is nice, compact and not crowded, nearby Korat (about 45 minutes by car). well maintained park and trees.

Having been to Siem Reap you can clearly tell this particular Wat was the blueprint for Angkor Wat, Cambodia. If your ever in Issan, Thailand it's definitely one to do. it's a shame people don't hear more of it. Thailand could do more to promote it really. They make you personal little souvenirs (not expensive) also. lovely touch. The surrounding... More

Phimai Historical Park is a must see visit. I visited this park at least 50 times over a period of 25 years. Still enjoy it every time.

Fabulous Khmer complex which offers a much smaller, and less-visited, version of Angkor Wat in next door Cambodia. This was the model for Angkor and as such, a visit is very worth while. We were fortunate to attend a sound and light show at the ruins but the show was a sporting event that did highlight Thai dancing and give... More
