These ruins are quite interesting and worth visiting if you have a couple of hours to spare while around Aberdeen. However, the place is a bit far from the city. The views are quite nice though.

We visited on a lovely dry morning but very cold. Quite a number of steps down to the Castle then back up again. Not for the infirm. Fabulous views

We were lucky with the weather. It was clear but cold. Interesting history with great views. Definitely worth a stop.

a dramatic cliff setting makes this castle and its well preserved remains well worth the short trip from Stonehaven. Allow at least two hours and take your own water and snack.

I'd seen photos of this on Scotland from the Roadside FB page. It's even more stunning in real life! A lot to see and took at least two hours to go around, taking photos. Stunning views! Take comfortable walking shoes/boots though. It's got quite a...More

Dear Efraim, Thanks for your review. What your picture doesn't show is the high winds that day that meant that the Castle had to be closed for safety reasons. Gusts of 47 and 55 mph were measured at the Castle which is well above our...More

As other reviewers have said, a visit to DunnottarCastle is a must. The location and setting of the castle is amazing; perched on a rock surrounded by the sea. Awesome!

Awesome place to visit. The staff work so hard to keep it in great condition and are always very friendly and helpful. Make sure you have strong shoes as the steps inside the castle are uneven.

We didn’t pay in this time but enjoyed the stunning views against the fast changing weather today. A very traditional Scottish Castle in a stunning cliff top location. Situated a mile south of the centre of the lovely village of Stonehaven.

It’s quite a walk from the town, also the access involves lots of outdoor stairs down cliffs and up again. I use a walking-stick so can no longer visit. Shame, because it is fascinating.

I would give yourself 2 hours for the castle and walk. If you wanted to walk in to the beautiful town of Stonehaven another few hours or visa versa. But you can easily be there all day enjoying a lovely lunch in one of the... More
