This is an incredible ruined castle that is a must see for it's unique, clifftop location, beautiful sea views and unparalleled size and complexity. The construction is amazing to have lasted several decades and the history is very interesting.

Location and setting is fantastic but the castle was shut due to "bad weather" despite the fact it was a calm sunny day. Disappointing!

The sheer size of this beauty can not be ignored. You will only see about 25 percent of the whole thing from the outside. The inside is like a small village. We spent maybe 2.5 hours to see everything and take photos. You can also...More

I recommend walking from Stonehaven along the shore/cliffs (about 45 min), look for signs with "Dunnottar castle", it's well marked. Get the best view of Stonehaven, the harbor and the surroundings as you climb the path/road up the hillside. The war memorial on the lonely...More

Nice place with some ruins and rebuilt parts, all enjoyable and well maintained well worth the walk down and up, gave you the sense of how hard the servants had to work on a daily bases, not covered by the Scotland Pass but think it...More

The Castle is quite remarkable. Stuck on a lump of rock. You need a bit of imagination to envisage what life was like and be fairly fit to get there. Really well worth a visit.

There are 189 steps down then a few up to the Castle so not stroller friendly and the path along the cliff top is narrow in parts so it depends on your buggy. If the buggy is collapsable then it might be feasible if you have... More

I would give yourself 2 hours for the castle and walk. If you wanted to walk in to the beautiful town of Stonehaven another few hours or visa versa. But you can easily be there all day enjoying a lovely lunch in one of the... More
