Riisitunturi National Park represents the fell and hill landscape of Koillismaa district at its best. The most valuable features of Riisitunturi Fell are the colourful hanging bogs on the slopes, and on the top of the fell the breath-taking scenery over the Lakes Kitkajärvet and the forest landscape of Posio. In the snowy forests, trees are covered with ”tykky”, frozen snow deposits, which in the blue moonlight just seem unreal.

We were there hiking with our snowshoes and it just so happened to be a very bad weather. Snow was coming down on us hard and we couldn't see almost anything. If the weather would have been nice this would have been a better experience!

Riisin rietas trail (10.7km) Great varieties of walks on this trail, up and down hills both on dry and wet areas, forests and meadows. We saw and listened woodpeckers and frogs. The trail was well colour marked on trees and easy to follow. The trail had a few fire areas where you can rest and grill your own food. It... More

Very nice hiking, not the least as crowded as Little Bear trail in Oulanka Ntl Park. The top of Riisintunturi surprises you with a spectacular view of woods, lakes and islands. Trail length ranges from 2 to 11 km. During the longest hike you will cross the timberline, walk through woods, through wet areas due to water running downhill (bring... More

We visited in May, in the late evening. It was raining so the view was not as good as it would otherwise be but it was beautiful nonetheless. Good walking gear is essential although the route is not especially tough, it is very exposed to the elements. In places the path was a bit challenging because of the ice but... More

We loved walking around this park, the route we took was undulating but not as strenuous as other walks we had taken in the area. Decent walking attire is essential. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery on a clear day and the variety of landscapes the route took us which included open fields and woodland. The boardwalks are a nice surface... More

I loved this place even though it was misty and you couldn't see very far, the snow was immense and the White Queen could easily have come into view. Equally the moving topiary from the Shining were there. Fabulous place.

There is no words for the beauty of Finnish Lapland... Riisitunturi with snowy trees and full moon is magical, but imagine how it all influences you when there is northern lights burning over the frozen sky... Don't try imagine it, just watch this picture from the frost coated small hut standing there.

Riisitunturi National Park is a great place to enjoy beautiful landscapes, peace of nature and great outdoors. There are different routes for longer hiking trips and shorter ones for day trips. The shortest route is 4,3km long, also good for families, and other routes are 10+ km. The longest hiking route is 29km. In the winter there are excellent possibilities... More
