The hills are turning green, the sun is mostly shining and spring is here to stay! Take a visit to see Britain’s only free-ranging herd of reindeer in their natural habitat. May is an exciting time for us reindeer herders as antlers are beginning to grow and it’s calving season! Visits go every day at 11am and 2.30pm at this time of year, follow a reindeer herder as you make your way up to the mountain enclosure, walk amongst reindeer, stroking and feeding them as the herder tells you more about them. Situated in the centre of the Cairngorms National Park, you will also enjoy beautiful views of the Cairngorm Mountains. The walk takes around 20 minutes and will cross some rough and muddy ground on the mountainside so make sure you’ve got some sturdy footwear and some nice cosy layers! Spaces are limited so please arrive in good time for your chosen visit. For those less able, from Easter to New Year, you can visit a small group of reindeer in the paddock & exhibition at the Centre, quizzes and crafts for children.

This is a great experience for all the family. The nice visitor center and the paddock with reindeer is just a first glimpse. The real thing is visiting the herd, spending time with the friendly reindeer, hearing about them and feeding them. The guides are...More

Great staff, explain everything well, where to go, what to do, what not to do, and great knowledge about the reindeer and history of the centre etc. All in all a great experience, just a little expensive.

Spent a lovely morning with Ruth going up into the Cairngorms to meet the boy reindeers and give them some late breakfast. It’s clear Ruth loves the reindeer, and has an encyclopaedic knowledge of reindeer and can name each of the reindeer you meet. This...More

Didn't time our visit for the walk to see the herd but paid for paddock entry at the centre and observed 4 reindeer there. They were lovely and fascinating and the exhibition was informative. Saw some wandering wild up near the funicular car park. Well...More

I did not set out to find or feed reindeer when we left on our family holiday to Scotland. However, we were charmed by the Cairngorm National Forest and the Osprey Centre so we took a chance and visited the reindeer herd. In many ways,...More

We did not take part in any of the organised experiences, instead we just popped in when passing. It was lovely to see the reindeers and read the history of why they are in the area. The information boards were interesting but to the point.

I've been wanting to feed the reindeer for ages and we finally got time to do it on our honeymoon last week. It was a great experience and brilliant to be on the hill with the reindeer. Our guide (Ruth I think) was very informative...More

I was a little nervous going into this adventure - I really wasn't sure if this experience was going to be worth the drive, precious travel time, 20-minute hike and 14 pounds per person. I was pleasantly surprised to find it totally was! The hike...More

Hi, Sorry for the slow reply! You should allow about an hour for the Paddock area with a 6 year old, as they will be the ideal age for all the children's activities there. Best wishes Hen
