Went for a 8 hours hike around the mountain, well maintained paths, lovely view of the mountains and the lava hills, a couple of huts along the way if you decided to stay for a night. A must if you love hiking..

Viewed from a distance this spectacular volcano dominates and provides a spectacular back-drop. The summit was often covered in cloud but then when they cleared the snow-covered "peak" (cone rim) is revealed and the true majesty of the mountain revealed. Up close we visited 2...More

What an admirable, a breath taking mountain: We‘ve enjoyed relaxing walks - just starting at the Dawson Falls Visitor Centre. People there are helpful with advice and hints. Our longest walk to us up to the Stratford Plateau. Easy walks even for city dwellers like...More

The mountain offers spectacular views, the more you give it, the more you will get in return. But don't push yourself too hard, the mountain can be very tricky and treacherous, the locals will tell you many people died because they underestimated it. However, this...More

I hiked to the summit with a friend, starting from the visitors centre and taking just over 7hrs return (including quite a few stops for photos and food!). Definitely recommend the hike, but only if you have sufficient gear and experience. Out of a rating...More

The drive to the visitors centre is very picturesque. Got lucky that the weather was fairly hot and clear on the day we went. Cloud still obscured part of the mount. Did the nature walk which we highly recommend this walk espically if you have...More

We took our two year old to the view platform and it's an astounding view! Due to the fog we couldn't see much of the mountain itself. Very quiet and only saw 1 other person up there.

The mountain is too dangerous to climb in winter unless you have ice axe crampons and ropes and you are an experienced climber. From East egmont I guess you mean Dawson Falls carpark. You climb up fantham.s Peak first which... More
