The Bajo del Tigre sector is physically separated from the Children's Eternal Rain Forest and is managed by the MCL. Bajo del Tigre is situated in Monteverde and is approximately 29 hectares in size, although the property is surrounded by other forested properties in the zone. The type of forest found in Bajo del Tigre is rare and it is poorly represented in the country. This is because these forests were cut down to make way for coffee plantations and urban zones. Bajo del Tigre presents an altitudinal range from 1,020 to 1,380 meters above sea level and receives over 2,400 mm of rain annually. In this type of seasonal forest, the dry period extends from January through the beginning of May. Bajo del Tigre has a reception center for visitors and a gift shop with items related to our organization and conservation in general. In addition, next to the reception center is a "kids' house" oriented to environmental education for local kids. The main visitors of Bajo del Tigre are national and international students. However, it is being used more and more by ecotourists and occasionally by researchers. In Bajo del Tigre, there are about 4.4 Km of trails that allow you to enjoy the unique flora and fauna of the area, as well as an excellent view of the sunset over the Nicoya Gulf.

This preserve is a short walk from Fonda Vela Hotel, were we stayed. The trails are relatively flat and easy for adults and children to navigate. We saw many birds and animals on the side of the preserve adjacent to the canyon, not so many in other places. It was very quiet the day we visited, and is a nice... More

We did a night hike with Orlando at Bajo del Tigre. Lots of fun, very informative and well worth the time and money. We would recommend this tour to anyone looking for an interesting night tour near Monteverde.

Children's Eternal Forest is definitely worth a visit, as it is quite different from Elena and Monteverde cloud forests - and it is less wet! You need to book ahead, but I was lucky and had the whole place to myself along with my guide. Saw plenty of wildlife; lovely birds, butterflies and a whole family of coatis foraging. Tip:... More

We went for a night walk in a small group. We didn't see quite as much wildlife as we'd hoped - an agouti, several sleeping birds, some butterflies and moths, stick insects, a scorpion - but our guide was tremendously enthusiastic and told us a lot of interesting information about the trees and plants that grow in this dry forest.... Our guide was so very knowledgeable and interesting. He was an older gentleman that had been a guide for a long time and really informed us about how the ecology was changing and what had been happening over the years It was obvious he really had a passion and so much experience. We took a walk around some pathways with... More

The story behind the Bosque Eterno de los Ninos is wonderful. Over 30 years, schoolkids from around the world have purchased and protected 55,000 acres of cloud forest. Go just to support their efforts. The night hike was fascinating. Our guide lives in the rain forest and is an ardent advocate for all the species there including his rare find,... More

We came here because we had read online that it was quieter than other reserves in the area and it definitely was. Lovely walk and we were very lucky to see a big group of 10-16 Coatis, an Agouti and best of all a troop of around 6 white faced capuchin monkeys. We found this better than the cloud forest... More

We visited the offices and display center of The Children's Eternal Rainforest. Very good information, tastefully displayed and so interesting. Any purchases go to help the rainforest preservation cause, so we were happy to assist.

We had this as part of our planned tour and were really looking forward to it. However there were only 3 of us and the guide seemed not the most charismatic - I'm sure he was knowledgeable - just not a great guide. We didn't see anything apart from some stick insets! That's nature , I get it, but shame... More

We sure hope you make it here. We drove all the way to the hanging bridge when discretion was the better part of valor, given the rotting boards on the bridge. Wish we could have made it, but seriously, it looked like some of the boards would give way due to rot and we'd have been stuck or worse. The... More
