On a recent visit to Monteverde we did both these tours (frogs and butterflies) at a cost of US$46 for two of us. Our guide was David, and he was a fund of knowledge who also helped us spot the frogs in their terrariums. We spent a couple of hours there and would recommend that if you're in the area... More

We went with our sons (7 and 5 year old) and had a very friendly guide speaking English very well.. We paid 39 $ for 4, guided tour included. You need a guide as he expertly shows you - with a flash light at times, the -sometimes very tiny- , frogs that tend to hide in their habitat. The visit... More

The frogs are all behind glass, in terrariums. Yes, this is safer for them and they should be protected, but there is not much to look at. Most of the frogs can't be easily seen. The butterflies are all in a tent and there are only a couple of them. Save your money and time and continue to the Monteverde... More

If you like frogs (we do) it's cool to see the different species that live in Costa Rica. That said, it is more like a zoo (terrariums) and not outdoor like we were hoping. Our guide David was very knowledgeable and helped folks take photos of the little frogs. You will certainly see more frogs here than out in the... More

My husband and I did the frogs and insect tour. Our tour guide was extremely informative and answered all our questions. he brought us to each frog tank an had us try to find as many frogs as possible. My husband was able to hold frogs and insects.

We did the butterfly display and the frog pond. The butterfly display didn't have many live butterflies, but the mounted specimens were nice. The frogs were definitely interesting, and the guide was very good at spotting them and pointing them out. Go in the evening, when the frogs are active.

We visited the frog pond and insect exhibits. For $27 for 2 people it was overpriced for what it was. There are hardly any live insects (in fact, there are only a couple). The rest of the insects were dead and displayed in cases in a small room. The frog exhibit had only 3 kinds of poison dart frogs, which... More

I am not a fan of zoos and so avoid them. I do not like a place where an animal is trapped in a tiny enclosure far smaller than it's natural environment. However for this place it sounded different. Glass lined ponds was the impression I was given and as such I thought it would be nice to see the... More

We were also allowed to watch the feeding of frogs. The guide was very knowledgeable, funny and engaging. The people in the caffee/ at the reception were very friendly and helpful too. This... More

We went to see the butterflies and then the frogs during the day. Since we were able to comeback at night, we did as the guide advised us and it was perfect! Definitely worth coming back.
