The Royal Port Alfred Golf Course is one of the oldest and best known in South Africa and was established in 1907.The undulating course snakes its way through thickets of pristine coastal forest and over hilly dunes always with the smell and sounds of the Indian Ocean close by whose blue waters offer the most panoramic views from many of the fairways. In true links tradition every slope, mound and dip remains untouched, demanding creative shot making and deft reading of angles.Adding to the allure and charm of the course is its resident wild life. Normally shy bushbuck will continue grazing contently as you walk by while springbok and impala pronk with delight. The blesbok, fallow deer duiker and giant tortoise peer at the golfers with suspicion and there is bird life in abundance.Visitors are always most welcome.

One of the very few "Royal" courses in South Africa - very nice to play. Try to pick a day with no wind. Excellent views over the ocean with 180 degree views. The game on the course just adds to the magic. Definitely on my Recommended Courses list.

The view from the club house is outstanding. We saw some wild life in the distance. Unfortunately we did not have our binoculars handy. My husband has played on the course many times, although he found it a difficult course he enjoys playing a round there. Sadly this time round the weather did not play along so it was a... More

Royal Port Alfred golf club is a little gem. It's well maintained, well manicured and offers a lot of diversity, ranging from drivable par 4's to unreachable par 3 in the right wind. The 18 hole layout nestled in the sea shrub will mislead you into a false sense of belief when you notice how short the course is.....don't make... More

The menu lets itself down as the food exceeds the poor menu graphics. Fabulous staff, alert to your every need. Just a couple of gripes. Poor poor wine choice by glass. Worst in town and also the desert menu! You are better than what you offer. Confusing choices. Modern and yet soooo old fashioned. You are a dichotomy . Please... More

Most beautiful sceneries and views. Frindly staff and members. Great course. Can become tricky if windy. A must if you are in the area.

The courses is a combination easy and difficult holes but suitable for all Players. The scenery is magnificent, with sea and coastal views from several Tees. When the Wind gets up it is a challenge even for top Golfers. The club has a very active sporting and social life

Beautiful golf course- well laid out, steeped in history too- if one takes one's time to read about it. As one of the few golf courses in the world- owning the right to 'Royal'- the facility has hosted many famous names, and games over the 120 years of its existence. Beautifully looked after- amazing buck accompany you while you play-... More
